Some of my games were showing up with their video cut scenes showing only half screen. Pathologic being the most recent example. To fix this I uninstalled windows update kb2803821. Now everything works dandy.

Thought I'd pass this along to save folks time if they ran into this issue instead of reinstalling everything :/

Have fun,

I think I have those updates installed, but am having no issues. Still, thanks for the heads up, it's good to know in case it should occur.
I just wanted to say a big thank you for this! I just did a fresh install and noticed that problem on a few games that had worked fine before the refresh. I never would have even thought to look at windows updates.

I thought is was just Rome Total War which was having the issue!

Windows tried to reinstall the update on my computer, but windows help and support was helpful(!) and gave information on how to stop that.
Glad it helped some folks. FYI Windows updates notoriously get bundled up so this may happen again down the line if they never fix this one. Hopefully they'll fix it. You can google the kb# for more info.
Just a heads up that this update patches a critical vulnerability, uninstalling it will leave your system vulnerable. It is a rather nasty security hole that allows the exploiter to do anything you can do on your system. Consider waiting for an update to the update.

If you really want to watch the videos without removing the update, you could always do what I did before the Thief: The Dark Project update: Skip the cutscene, pause the game, go into the game's video folder and watch the corresponding video. It's a pain in the ass to do every time, but it's probably a lot safer than uninstalling a critical system update.

Thanks for that, thats a decent work around.
That reminds me of many years ago when i never got to watch the last video for Men In Black - The Game - Stupid CD!
