SCPM: I've never put much time into WoW so I don't know, but here's the original story:

OOh, that's great! :D

amok: impossible without at least killing quest mobs, there is just not enough xp in discoveries and achievements. The only way then is to team with someone who kills for you...

If you really like Warcraft that much (sigh) and can't play WoW, there are literally thousands of mods and maps and campaigns for Wc3. Obviously most of them are worthless, but you can find some rough gems here and there, like the campaigns based on the novels.

+1 for this. I've played some wonderfully crafted mods detailing the story of Lord of the Clans, War of the Ancients, the book about Dragons (can't think of the name now).

Pretty amazing since they fit in Warcraft's universe so perfectly. :)
I loved the games before they were MMO, even have some of the books, but I won't play WoW simply because of the sub.

Maybe you'll get your turn in a dozen years, who knows. :)

MMOs have been going from sub to f2p model lately.

There are still gathering / errand boy quests... and with the speed the xp rises in WoW it may be possible? Or not... if the quests are made available to a char only after the bloody ones.

BTW I remember I actually did earn my first like 10-20 levels through gathering and exploring alone once accidentaly. Yay WoW's leveling speed. Killed a few mobs but in self defence ;P

Yeah, there seem to be quite a bit popping up out there. I just can't get myself to buy something and then have to keep paying to play it, even though I would probably enjoy it.

Look up these campaigns by OutsiderXE. I don't know how faithful to the books they are, but they were pretty fun, a mix of combat, rpg and puzzles. I heard Knaak's novels were pretty bad by the way.

Other than that, I can recommend Med. Mapguy's parodies Joe's Quest and Deandra's Tale.

This short cinematic won an official Blizzard contest. Cult of the Damned might be worth a look too, I think it tries too hard to be dramatic, but it was one of the most important and popular cinematics back in the day.

Also, there's an entire site dedicated to WoW movies and machinima.

Weclock: Once I got to playing AOE though, I was like "Wow, if I had found this before WC3 I would have creamed myself."
avatar
CaveSoundMaster: Wait... AFAIK AoE is a historical game so it doesn't have a "world" to speak of, it's our world!
More in terms of mechanics, I was so happy to have the option to get notified when my worker was done with something.

That has always been a part of Warcraft 3. Or am I mixing things up?

It was, but it was in AOE first.

I see. I haven't played W2. Don't remember W1 having something so I guess you're right.
