I think I may have gotten a stray PM a couple of times, but it's been extremely rare and, I think, mostly through misunderstandings.

That aside, I've recently been begging people for any and every stray copy of Darkest Hour they might have, hoping to find the game a good home. I didn't feel particularly comfortable doing it, but I'm at least happy to say I've made sure the first two people on my list of prospects now have a copy. I apologise if I've caused anyone any discomfort, and I hope people believe me when I say I had only the best intentions for the game in mind. I also deemed my reputation to be less important than my stated cause, and there's precious few games I would do that for. So, whether it's necessary or not, I'm sorry for any disturbance (I tried to be as discrete and unintrusive as possible), and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
I've never even seen the aforementioned poster. Guess that's what I get for being cheap.
I've had this kind of problem plenty of times and know one or two regular gifters have had people begging via PM for some (quite expensive) AAA releases. I've also had some beg me to enter giveaways on their behalf - without any prior conversation or personal contact at all.

As to the user in question, I don't think they've ever contacted me in this regard, but many others have (and checking through the slew of PM's I have everyday back to about March didnt turn anything up.

Fact is there are many abusing this forum in such a way - some with multiple accounts (Wakalo being the most famed), others as lurkers grabbing anything posted for regulars they can lay their hands on. Some abuse other sites for their "respect" (or whatever it is they think they're getting from it) on GOG by taking as many of the free keys a site gives out as they can get, then constantly giving away a drip-drop supply of them, whilst gobbling up any game possible thats offered. Others just gobble the games and will never be seen commenting in a thread such as this.

I can understand entering giveaways and bagging some freebies if they're offered, but there comes a point when if thats all you do, the community at large (as well as the gifters) should be aware of it, because I've no doubt some of these people aren't just here for free games for their own use / backlog increase, but some are here to truly scam the generosity of others and make a profit in the long run.

In short, too many numpties have appeared this year!

Edit: I'll also add there are / have been other users (and currently one in particular) who keep telling us how many GOG games they have / Steam games they have (ie a lot!), and any time a gift is given, a key dropped or a giveaway opened, they seem to continuously beg / hint / spam to try and get more.

Elvin37: Ok so a little while ago when I won a giveaway this user named BranjoHello instantly as soon as the winner was announced before I even got the prize from the generous gifter asked me if he could have the spare keys he only needed one of them so he said he would give the other away, he didn't really put it very politely he seemed to be quite demanding so I chose to not respond to his message I brushed it off as if nothing happened and continued on with life but now the issue after hearing many reports from various users that they too have been begged for free things by this user, I had to do something so I chose to create this thread I mean there is the gifting threads and the ninja threads a lot of generosity goes on in those but when it comes to begging by personal messages then it becomes an inconvenience or annoyance.
Have any of you guys been affected by this?

Sorry for the long message but I really think this needs to stop not just for me but mostly for other users.
Not to hijack the thread, but this is part of the reason why I don't believe in charity per say. I don't consider it a sustainable model.

I prefer well ran non-profits that charge only their operating cost (salaries included) to the end-user.

Otherwise, the operation is dependent on external donations (which can dry up) and in many cases make the recipient feel entitled to freebies as if resources grew on trees.

Charity is more of a right winger thing in my view. Donate on a whim when you feel like it really. No organization, no planning, just erratic redistribution of resources.

I once got called an idiot for giving away games. Ah the good old days when I actually received random PM's :)

(please don't send me random PM's...)

I haven't been "tormented" with begging PMs yet, on that part I've dodged the bullet so far.
Then again, I am fairly new here, so haven't quite established a giving reputation yet.

My GA does have some brand new users entering, all from the same country and all users have 1 rep, and are most likely made for GA entries only.
I consider that the same as begging, though I have no proof that this is actually being the case. It just strikes me as too obvious to be random.
It happens here and as I've said in the past; I believe it is because our user base is so damned generous. A view past post of individual users is much needed. Fortunately, I've spent most of my time here on the other side of the coin; members PMing me offering to give me things. Any time this happens I always try to work out a trade. I've had people gift me in return after my own giveaways. Crazy stuff. I still believe this is the best community I've ever been a part of on the net. No doubt about it.

I completely agree this community is the best one I have ever been part of but recently in the past few months there has been a big outbreak of people that try to abuse the generosity of these great people and they have just been multiplying like the plague especially the ones that create their accounts on gog just to get game from other sites and not actual gog games but oh well not much we can do about it.
