ilves: btw you guys have way too much rep... do you go around IRC land repping each other all day long? or do you solve so many problems on this site that your rep is just stupendous?

Some solve a lot of problems. Others (like me) are just here a lot. As far as I know, you get 1 rep point per day you have posted on the forum. Not per post, mind you, but per day that you post. So if you participate in the forum discussions on a daily basis, your rep climbs steadily.
