I had a bit of a search but couldn't find anything about this...

Basically I bought Baldur's Gate II on gamersgate today (had some spare blue coins) and when I downloaded and started the installation I was a bit surprised to be looking at the GoG installer, complete with message "Thank you for supporting GoG.com" and with a default install path to the GoG folder...

So my question is does GoG get a cut for gamersgate using their version of the game? I can see why they would use it, as it's been updated for modern systems etc. but if GoG dont get a cut for their work then that seems a bit shady.

Also, are all the classic DnD games that recently appeared on GamersGate like this?

Not sure but I believe it's the producers/distrubitors of the games pulling these stunts.

I wouldn't know, I've never bought any games available from GOG at Gamersgate.

I've bought a couple games from them but never noticed paypal is actually required.

I think GG only puts whatever the publisher gives them so most likely Atari is the one to blame. It wouldn't hurt if a GOG rep explained if they knew anything about this.

Yep, they accept only Paypal, which is illegal here, or Moneybookers which doesn't deal with Cambodian banks.

My Visa works just fine on GOG, but there is no direct payment via Visa or any other credit/debit card available on GG.

but publishers don't have rights (i would assume) to gog installers. gog paid to create them not atari.
it would be cool if gog gets a slice of gg sales tough.

Woah, this can't be right can it? It all depends on what kind of contract GOG has with Atari. It might state that Atari has all rights to any modifications GOG makes and all rights to the installer packages GOG makes (the ones that contain Atari games that is).

As GamersGate stated on Twitter, they are selling the build that was supplied to them by the publisher. So if there are any issues regarding this then it will be up to GOG to contact the publisher and explain it to them.

In the settlers subforum you find a thread about someone who bought a settler-pack from ubisoft and got the GOG-version of Settlers 2. GG also uses some of GOGs screenshots. On the Interplay-site you can buy a drm-free Fallout bundle including 1, 2 and Tactics - wouldn't be surprised if they also sell the GOG-versions. My guess is that as part of some deals the publisher can use GOGs created stuff for other releases.

Just ike it happens with gog, gamersgate also uses whatever the publishers give them (or tell them to use), so Atari is most definitely in the loop on this one

I don't think this is necessarily bad as it helps spreading gog's name on a platform that more or less is in direct competition with gog, even more so (oh, joy :| ) when gog starts moving up those much tooted 'newer' games

Besides, there are games on gog that dump the default dotemu .ini files and whatnot on the HD. This is different because the installer is more visible, yes, but not really that different when it comes down to it, just a matter of using what the publisher provides them with.

Yup, I can confirm that Still Life and Syberia are such cases.

I just want to say a big thank you to Chisaku and FreshH for helping me out with this. It's completely awesome of you.

And for reference in case anyone else is interested, it is possible to gift blue coins, but you have to gift them when you buy them, you can't gift blue coins that you already have (though you can use them to gift games to people).
