I try not to be a jerk about many questions from noobs (like when people ask about Steam keys) but this seems like it has a really obvious answer and is kind of a dumb question. If you take an item to any other store for a refund, you don't get to keep the item.

pimpmonkey2382: Thats different than a digital download that cannot be scratched.
I know, I'm just trying not to be an asshole for a few minutes. Trust me, the effort is kill me! :O

Do not resist, let the asshole flow through you.

Wait. We can have steam keys with our GOG purchases? Where are they? I just spent 20 minutes look for them. Seriously. I don't see them. Where are they?

P.S. Send me free games plz.

Try for a little bit more, it apparently didn't work yet.

Wait a minute now, that's not my way of speaking... it seems that as you're becoming less of an asshole, I become more of one.

LeonardoCornejo: It is more like getting a scratched DVD, but I get your point.

tinyE: In your defense that happened to me once with a game. I bought it off Amazon and when I got it the cd was scratched and unplayable. The vendor IMMEDIATELY refunded the full purchase and when I asked him if he wanted the disc back he replied, "What the hell am I going to do with it!?" :P
Similar situation here - I ordered a hard-to-obtain book that was rather pricey, and when it arrived it was the "teaching guide" for the book, not the book itself. I contact the seller and they refunded the cost, and they didn't want the book back either. It was a useless item on its own so I got rid of it too.

A damaged CD is pretty much useless, unless you want to use it to scare crows from your cornfield. But a digital downloaded game is still very useful, even if not to you, so there's no reason GOG would benefit from letting you keep it.

IAmSinistar: That's like getting a DVD that is incompatible with your player, requesting a refund, but also asking that you get to keep the DVD in case you later buy a player that is compatible. It's not how things work. If it doesn't work you send it back and get a refund. If at a later date you are suddenly able to use the product, you buy it again.

Not quite, because the downloaded game might very well work well enough on another machine (different hardware, drivers, or whatnot) while the scratched disc wouldn't be readable at all.
