So I just went to the video rental store I usually go to and I found out they have the Director's Cut of Blade Runner.

Just so you know I watched the film on TV and at first I did not like it because of the narration like that stupid, "Skinjobs thats what Bryant called Replicants. In the history books he is the kind of cop that called black men n#ggers"

But people told that I watched the theatrical cut which I think TinyE and others said it was the inferior one and the Director's cut is much better and removes the narration from Decker.

I just want confirmation because I have a bad history with Blade Runner.

Well the thing is there is a lot of versions of Blade Runner like The Final Cut, Director's Cut, etc.

I ma getting the best one?

I had no idea there was a difference between the directors cut and the final cut. According to wiki the final cut gave Scott total control over every frame which he didn't really have for the director's cut because it was rushed and he was busy filming something else so he really couldn't oversee the whole thing.

Well lucky me, Amazon had one FC left in stock and I just ordered that bad boy. :D I owe you big time Elmo, I never would have learned this had you not started this thread.

The 2007 version is supposedly the best. Whatever they nicknamed it.

My 4-disc collection has four versions.

1- The Theatrical Cut. The version with narration, something that some people like and some don't. One thing I do like about this version is that it keeps it ambiguous as far as what Deckard actually is.
2- The International Cut. Similar to the Theatrical Cut, extended action scenes.
3- The Director's Cut. The big changes take place. No narration, the unicorn scene is added. I won't spoil what that means, but can't say I'm too fond of it.
4- The Final Cut. Released in 2007, similar to the Director's Cut except that its more polished. A couple sloppy scenes were fixed up (even reshot in one case), a couple lines changed, a bit more violence (extended eye gouging scene)... the unicorn scene is still there.

Versions not included is a sneak peek version, a workprint version, and a tv version. Those might be available on one of the many releases of the film, not sure which.

Personally, I'd say the two versions to check out are the theatrical cut and the final cut. The final cut is the best in some ways, but it includes some changes that I think hurts the story. Still one of my two favorite sci-fi films.

I have the workprint version on my 5-dvd-edition. I am not sure i REQUIRE it. :-/

In practice, when I rewatch it, I rewatch the 2007 ("final cut") version.

Why is it that Ridley Scott's films end up like this? Just 2 weeks ago I watched the Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven and it was much better than the original. Are his films so ambitious or too big that its up on the chopping block for the theatrical release?
