houlety: Since you seem to be a marketing genius, show me the statistics in todays modern industry that I would make me more money online then If I came out with a brand new console. Since I'm nice, I will tell you that you need not do what I just said. I will tell you that all you have to do is go sit on your couch and watch TV. Then come back and tell me what new console commercial you just saw. If I'm not mistaking (and I'm not) you will not see any new console commercials, wodmarch. The last major console to come out was the Wii in 2005. Say wodmarch, do you remember how much you could get for a Wii on E-bay in 2006? Close to $500. Experts say that this wasn't because just because the Wii was way ahead of it's time that the Wii was so popular. No, Experts say that the Wii became popular because of the fact that it was new! It didn't have a number after it's name like the playstation or the X-Box! No. It was new!
So if everyone can stop giving me ways about how my idea is flawed and will not work, use your heads to give me some ideas. Trust me I need some of your video game expertise.

I'll hit you up with something how much did microsofts games department report in their first profitable year?$486million, what did it lose the year before?$2BILLION and its income had been increasing for 4 years!
How much has been invested in Phantom? over $5million at last report, how much has it made?$0 it doesn't even exist.
Onlive? forcasts something like 5 years of massive loses MINIMUM.
Costs for a new console:
Patents for controllers (more than you think of these)
Hardware design
OS
Publisher incentives
Certification by authorities
Advertising
and thats just off the top of my head.
as for the Wii? yeah nintendo got lucky now look at the N64 and Gamecube. The Wii itself is Gamecube 2.0 so cost almost nothing to design etc but it took them nearly 20 YEARS to get to the point there system was ubiquitous again and they had great rep in gaming comunities (Nintendo hard etc)
and you want to release a system JUST for your game? BWAHAHAHAHA
Seriously you want to design games fine thats relatively skilled but amateurs do it all the time. You want to design a new console? You'll need backers LOTS of backers you'll be lucky if you keep 4% of your company. Then you have to meet their milestones get word of mouth going and above all make it something people want. Good luck with that.
I've worked in the game industry it's fun, hardwork but fun I miss it but I don't think you quite realise what your trying to do.

houlety: Age is but number. If I found a cure for cancer it would not matter how old I am.

Reality check:
For you, a Flash game would be an ambitious project. I don't mean that to be condescending. It would be a bloody ambitious of me to attempt one. Had you set your sights on that I'd still have my doubts. Especially seeing as you seem to lack fundamental project management skills. As it stands you really are going to achieve absolutely nothing.
But hey, you're young. So you can carry on daydreaming for now.
Wodmarach:
I really don't need your negativity. I'm trying to kill some extra time by compiling a list of stuff in need for this to happen thank you very much. I had to do a report on something of my choice. I chose the video game industry. I completely know what I'm trying to do. I have a plan for my life already. And video games are at the bottom of the list. (In other words I hope to have several thriving bussinesses to back myself with) I didn't really want to clutter up the forums with stuff I already know I need. But thanks for recapping me. Now wodmarach, unless you are going to give me some ideas for the gameplay, not the hurdles I will have to jump to get what I want, please stop posting!
Forget it! just because I'm kid doesn't give you senority over me! I've been offered countless trips to leadership camps and colleges! I was offered to go to Washington for the International Younge Leaders Conference! I really don't need you guys to tell me I can't do this! EVERY SINGLE PERSON HAS SAID I WILL FAIL!! I need tips and hints about what to do! NOT CRITICISM FOR EVERY WORD I SAY!!! SO unless your going to HELP me just don't post! Simple as that. And Navagon this isn't going to be Flash. And to Wodmarach I've decided it's going to be a new type of gaming system. It won't be a cosole. It will be for PC's. Once again, I posted for FRIENDLY criticism and hints and tips, NOT NEGATIVE COMMENTS !!

So many downers in this thread. Why not let him have his dream? There's no harm in him trying.
If you're going to make a game, you will need to have a graphics engine (or something of a similar nature), because no one wants to code it from scratch. You have a few options. The best one for you would probably be the Unreal Development Kit or UDK. There's an option available for free, if you search Google you should be able to find it. I think it comes with netcode, but I haven't really played around with it so I'm not sure. If not, you'll have to right your own code for running games over the net. You'll have to make art assets for your game, so I'd suggest Blender (for making 3D models) and GIMP (for the 2D assets). Both are free and available online.
As for the patent angle, you need more than a picture to patent a product. You need to have diagrams describing the layout and makeup of your product, including technical specifics. You aren't at that level yet. I'd suggest working on your game before you start on the system, because the barrier to game development is a much lower hurdle than that of hardware fabrication.

Thank you for you help. I thought about presenting the game to microsoft when I turn 18. I will probably show them a Flash version of the game as a prototype. Also gameplay images and base layouts. I have several people that are willing to help me also. That aren't online. And I've decided to forget the console all togther. All thier will be is a pyramid like usb pluggin that will have the hardware and the software.

1. That WAS friendly if I was trying to destroy you completely I'd have given you links to my disertation from Uni a few years ago.
2. Your being inconsistant first you wanted to sell all new hardware etc now its just PC's.
3. Your actual game idea probably isn't a bad one but your over complicating it thinking you can break the golden rule of the games industry "How do you get a small fortune from games? Start with a Large fortune and work your way down"

The problem here is he's wanting it for a whole new system etc so standard shortcuts won't be available for him, He'll HAVE to do it all from scratch.

houlety : Good luck with your project. One piece of advice for you, though : You have to back down from emotional responses. It's a simple fact that the typical reaction to someone so young attempting something ambitious is going to be of the "Wait, WHAT? You can't do that!" variety. You NEED to learn to shrug that off or it becomes too easy for some to just dismiss you as 'some kid without a real fighting chance'.
Also, definitely sit down and map up a proposal of sorts of exactly what your goal is. Not only do you then have something to show other people, it also makes it 100% clear in your head exactly what you need to do. You do show a bit of inconsistency in what you're talking about here, and actually planning things out would deal with that.
Again, good luck, dude. :)

I'm really not a politician. Thanks for the advice. What is Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? Also I will hopfully have a PDF file about my idea up on this topic soon. And I hope to have a website up and running by X-mas.

It was a film, forget it. Point is, as others have suggested, Let it be.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this thread, you will not go anywhere unless you know where you are going. Creating a game is almost a scientific process, it is not finger painting. You can't start with a house and end up with a spaceship.
First of all, decide what you want the game to be, EXACTLY. I am not talking about number of buttons etc, but gameplay in detail. Not like you are writing a review or telling a story.
For example let's take Pac-Man.
What you are doing is this:
I want to make a game that is going to be fast action, 2D, and played on an arcade machine! Now, give me your ideas!!!!
This is nothing. This is the kid talking, not the person who wants to make a game. You can't go and ask for ideas for creating a game. You need to have a game first, even on paper, then ask for ideas for specific parts of it and be specific.
So, going back to Pac-Man, you should already have on paper (and I do mean paper because it is much better than typing at this stage of planning), the following.
The game will have a maze, the outer walls will form almost a square. The game is in real time. There will be corridors and walls inside the maze. You will control a single character, perhaps yellow colored. Inside the maze there are many pellets or pills, X number, that by moving your character on them, you "eat" them and gain points. There are enemies in the game. They run and try to touch your character "eat" it. When they succeed then you lose your character/life/game. They are 4-5 per session. The start from the middle of the map and they move randomly until they detect you. When they do they (this depends on the version) will increase their speed and try to catch you. You can try to avoid them by moving away from them, or you can eat one of the 4 special pills that are located in the 4 "corners" of the map to get a special power which makes your character able to kill the enemy units when you touch them. The special power for each special pill only lasts X seconds. Every Y seconds special bonuses, in the shape of fruits, will appear for your character to eat them and gain points. The fruits, their order and points are the following....To end a level you need to eat all the pills in the maze, including the special ones. When you do, you reach the next level.....etc
Now, you will need to be even more specific than the above with your game. Consider how big and different your game will be from Pac Man. Do you understand how many things you need to decide upon, write down, delete and think and write down again, till you reach a point where your game IS good?
For fun, try to do this for a more complicated game, for example Super Mario, or some other game you know.
Do you also understand why asking strangers for help is not a good idea? Not so much because someone might steal your idea (possible), but because even if they wanted to, they can't. It's YOUR game. They can't get in your mind and figure out what you want, imagine, dream about this game.
Of course, even if/when you manage to reach a point where you actually know what you want, exactly, you need to consider a few things.
1)The game needs to look AWESOME. No FPS can not look awesome and sell.
who is going to make the graphics? The game engine? The models?
2)Who is going to create the sound effects, music and speech?
3)Who is going to write the AI? The network code?
4)Who is knowledgeable enough to combine all the above (and more)?
Who is going to pay for the machines to create the game and software needed? You need to buy the software, you can't just use illegal copies to save money.
and on and on.
Who is going to be in charge and leader for all the people you will need? How are you going to pay them? Even if they are your friends from school or something, they will want something in return. Is it going to be part of the potential income? Is it rights to the game? Something else?
For a modern 3D game you need thousands and thousands and thousands of working hours. You need licenses, you need people who know what they are doing because if you are all new on this, it is going to fail, one way or the other.
So you need to find a way to do all the above, or if you want only to push this game idea to a company, make your proposal and details of the game to them, so good, so freaking awesome, that they will not be able to say no. Then do it again because it probably sucks.
After many times, when you know, you believe that it is good enough, get ready to propose the game to a company. Get ready to hear NO, NO NO NO NO. When you do, make sure you politely ask them why their reply is a NO and if they would have something to suggest that could, even if not for them, make a no, a yes.
If you truly deeply want to do this. You will need to work on it for years before you succeed.
and for the love of all you love, make sure you have a way to prove your idea is your idea or else you risk having someone, be it a company or someone who just happened to read it, steal it, change it a bit and make it his.
I don't know where you live or how things are there, someone else could probably help for this last part.
One cheap solution would be to post (registered/recorded/etc) the envelope with it, to yourself and not open it.
closing, one last thing.
Whatever you do, if this is what you want, do it. Don't give up.

Here is some advice along a different axis, based on my own experience.
I was a bit older than you when the internet in its current form really came to be, so I went through high school and college roaming through chat rooms, mailing lists and message boards. I was also erratic, hot-tempered and a bit unstable at that time in my life, and that came through in my dealings across the internet. It wasn't until I landed a steady professional job a few years after college that I finally stabilized, got over my depression and low self-esteem, and found a little perspective. Regarding the internet, I came to realize four things:
1) No matter what I think I know, there is always someone else present who knows more. Humility is a virtue.
2) Most people don't really like reading angry or mean-spirited posts, justified or not. I certainly don't. They may be funny or gratifying once in a while, but a person who makes too many nasty posts will eventually find themselves disregarded and unwelcome.
3) If I do feel the need to post with hostility, I usually type out what I'm thinking, then stop and do something else for a bit while I think about whether I really want to post it. Almost inevitably, I decide that I don't. Whatever upset me in the first place doesn't seem very important after I get away from it for a few minutes, and I can blow off steam by typing a response without sending it.
4) If I do lose my temper and post something aggressive towards another poster, I almost always regret it, whether they deserve it or not. It's not cathartic, it's not showing anyone who's boss; it only makes me feel worse. The people who deserve to be flamed typically don't care if you flame them (or they enjoy it).
I'm not a placid person by nature; managing my temper takes effort, both online and in the real world, and I still overheat sometimes. I am, however, a great deal happier for making that effort. Letting myself get carried away over trivialities erodes my peace of mind. I wish I'd had more control when I was younger, but then, I guess everyone feels that way.
The moral of the story: don't fly off the handle, especially if you're trying to get people to help you. You have all the time in the world to compose your responses; take advantage of that and don't let the heat of the moment get the better of you. The only way to be taken seriously is to prove that you're serious. Yelling only shows that you're sensitive.

trusteft: One cheap solution would be to post (registered/recorded/etc) the envelope with it, to yourself and not open it.

Interesting fact this does nothing, copyright exists from the moment you create something, your better option is to go to a public notary and get a statement from them about time of creation yes it costs but it DOES have the full power of the law behind it.
tbh I think my main problem with the idea here is it's DRM, the good old dongle system which was universally reviled by gamers and publishers alike (remember extra cost is bad) the first time round.
Guys, let's not bash the young one, let him dream. And who knows, maybe he'll surprise us all and make a new killer concept, buy microsoft and gain total domination in gaming market?
Anyway, we all have dreams. My dream is to make "the-most-über-game of zombie apocalypse survival", but I lack the skills and funding :) Occasionally, I brainstorm the ideas with my friends, but we all know we'll never going to be able to make that game. That doesn't stop us from dreaming about it though :)
So let him have his dream. Let's be civilized.
One thing though, if he's serious about that stuff, where is he going to get the funding?
I'm really not that young, not that age matters, but I'm 13.
