What the fffffff?

This crap actually reached one million? WOW!
*Pew Pew Pew!*

That hardware is going to be hilariously dated by the time this thing launches. It already is really. This thing will be nothing more than a hundred buck indiegames box. I'm amazed people are funding this.

Roman5: I wish I could hate all the people involved in this garbage to death.
I want their children to be without fathers because I don't agree with the business model! RAWR!

I have to admit, the concept is great, but im still skeptical at how they will execute it. Like someone already said, with such an open platform they probably will never get support from major publishers. Im not saying that games from big publishers are everything, but they are certainly really important when it comes to buying a console.

And without a big company to back it up and make some AAA exclusive games, it might be even more difficult. And this freemium model does worry me. If they advertise so much on being "open" and all, they should let the developers set whether they want their games free or not. But this way theyre just forcing people into either making a demo or going pay-2-win.

I just dont get all the hate i have seen in the last posts. I mean, cmon, it might work or it might be a failure, only time will tell, but calling people stupid for backing it on kickstarter is just too much. Personally i think this will be the next Phantom, but i hope Ouya surprises me.

I dunno. There was recently a kickstarter that was funded where the lead on it has since been revealed to be a schizophrenic, and has said that the sun has told her to stop development on her board game. The worst part is, her craziness was apparent from the start, and people still funded it. It's caused me to be a bit wary.

But this one looks serious enough. Im almost sure this is no scam or anything.

But yeah, there are laughable kickstarter that just scream "scam" all over the place. There was one for a PC game a few months ago where an asian guy with a terrible english just said that he would make an FPS and made a video of him messing around with a random dev tool. Nothing else was said, he didnt even talk about who was talking with him, and he was the only guy who appeared in the video. Not to mention that the main page had an Angelina Jolie picture which had nothing to do with the game. It was cancelled before reaching its deadline, though.

They have already reached their KS target, with more than 1 million. Thats a lot, and there are still 29 days left. I dare to say it will get past 4 millions.

You beat me to it. This things reeks of vaporware worse than the Phantom.

Also, I hope that the controller won't be like the picture because completely flat analog sticks don't look very ergonomic (except for the 3DS which is portable).

Ah, Island Visitors. Everyone needs to check out the production values for this game, pity it never came to pass.

I can kind of see some gamers getting this purely for the emulation potential though. I mean, you can already do everything an Android can do on your PC but the ease of access with the plug and play on your TV might be worth it for some. But I can't imagine this being that great for modern games.

Yeah, this is the one.

By the way i feel this will be the most backed KS project to date, in just a few minutes it went from 1,200,000 to 1,400,000. I bet they will get more than 5 millions by the end.
I gotta imagine some of the backers are really unaware of just how bad the specs on this thing are, and what the actual support from publishers will be. I think people are imagining playing Metal of Duty 7 for free on their 100 buck consoles when this thing will not likely move far beyond what you can already do on current mobile devices.

Here's the reddit thread. http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/wbsou/board_game_developer_raises_over_7000_on/

They did some background and found other crazypants things she was doing that were apparently public the entire time.

Roman5: I can't believe people are actually falling for this shit.

I mean, I always knew "indie gamers" and consolechildren were stupid, but now they're giving $100 each to a bunch of con artists and nobodies that are putting up some smoke and mirrors to sell a glorified android device that you could already run on your PC.

And the only major game that has been announced for it is MINECRAFT. People are paying $100 to play Minecraft again when they can already play that shit on their PCs and 360s.

People are putting money on this expecting to get in on the next "Wii" fad. But they won't even get that. this machine isn't even as powerful as a Wii, and keep in mind that we are living in the year 2012 of our lord and saviour: Jesus Christ

The processing power on this machine is a complete joke.

Shit like this just makes me depressed. I wish I could hate all the people involved in this garbage to death.
What is your definition of a "nobody"? Yves Behar and Julie Uhrman are hardly "nobodies" in the tech world (he created the JamBox and the One Laptop per Child, she's worked almost everywhere in the gaming industry). As for them being con artists, again, their reputations would seem to conflict with that assessment.

True, the hardware is not as "top end" as standard consoles, but it is certainly in line with current tablets, which are more than capable of playing the kind of games they are targeting with this system. Not to mention, they are obviously not targeting the so-called "core gamers" that care about things like hardware specs, they are targeting casual gamers who like their simple non-demanding games. The Wii is actually a good comparison for this system, only it is much cheaper and will play the same games they also play on their tablets and smartphones (it won't just have Minecraft, it already has access to the entire Android library). Even with that, the console will not be limited to just Angry Birds and the like. On my own weak-ass tablet, a Kindle Fire, I can easily run PS2/Wii quality games and the Ouya is at least twice the machine the Fire is.

I honestly don't understand all the hate and negativity here. So this console might not be the system for you... then don't buy it. Just because it is not "your thing" doesn't mean it won't be anyone else's thing. Besides, the open concept and zero barrier to developer entry might actually encourage some real innovation in console games, even if the graphics aren't nearly as high end as the next generation regular consoles. That can only be a good thing for gaming in general, even if you personally don't end up using this console.
