I pre-ordered Borderlands at a major digital distribution outlet. However,there was a most peculiar glitch with the payment. I was only billed for 44 Canadian cents for the order!
Now do I choose to be a gentleman, and send them an e-mail to warn them of the incident, or do I stay mum and consider the game to legitimately be mine upon release?
As I'm a student with low means I'm almost assuredly going to go with the latter option. But would you act differently in my place? Either the service, or Gearbox, isn't going to get their money.

I could almost guarantee you they'll charge you less than normal if you reported the incident. Don't initially tell the DD service, tell 2K/Gearbox. THEN tell the DD service.
It's the most moral that way, and you'll feel good about yourself.

An error like that? Trust me they already know. Being a pre-order they could chose to bill you the full amount on the day of release and would be legally entitled to do so, saying that the 44 cent was just a 1% charge to insure the card was valid.
Honestly if it happened they weekend they'll probably deal with it on Monday, if not they're most likely trying to decide if it's worth it to them to charge the full amount (which they may not bother if few enough people purchased it).
Being a pre-order they can refund it at any time before release as you haven't actually received anything yet.
This is of course assuming that 44 cents was only what you were billed and it wasn't the "advertised price" at the time.

I'd say you report it, just in case anything is happening you may be unsure about.
It will also clear any moral issues you have. Personal experience has shown people/companies to be thankful now and then, and I agree with Vagabond; you'll likely be charged far less than the full amount.

Actually I made the transaction on Friday, and then checked my online bank account this evening.
The service is Gamersgate, by the way.
I'm positive it isn't an initial charge. I didn't even purchase the game directly, I purchased 40$ in blue coins, which I then used in conjonction with the blue coins tied to my account towards the pre-order.
I also pre-ordered both Alpha Protocol and Red Faction Guerilla on the same site, and on both occasions, I was billed the full amount right when the transaction was over, in spite of both games not being released at the time of purchase.

LOL I know the feeling! All the games being delayed to 2010 turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Although it might not seem that way next year...

Okay, you HAVE to report it to GamersGate. They are the nicest people you could ever speak to in the business. I'm not kidding. I complained about download speeds from GamersGate in a tweet, and they direct messaged me asking for my connection speed and all that stuff. For my troubles, they gave me a free game.
