CarrionCrow: Your comments definitely link back to the whole "made in their image" bit. If we're all made in a god's image? With all our collective mental problems, physical problems, inevitable deterioration and decay? Kinda makes for one freaky entity behind the big cosmic wheel if that's the case. Just some tragic figure riddled with madness and rot, self-destructive as all hell and wanting it to all end.
What's even more amusing about the entire thing that evolution would actually be incredibly intelligent design. Creating life which is so fragile that it can't even adapt is short-sighted and incredibly stupid. On the other hand, creating life which is completely self-sustained, adaptive and able to cope with any adversity, now that's good design. Evolution plays right into cards of Christians saying that God is intelligent and all-knowing. They got handed the best excuse for most issues that have been discussed troughout centuries. Yet some think it's a good idea to throw away something that has been observed to occur, both in nature and in mankind, thus completely killing any credibility - by this point, it's like you went into a room and started yelling that world is actually flat. If they refuse to believe we have evolved from primates or that dinosaurs existed, that's actually fine with me, but that's also not part of evolution at all. But not believe that evolution itself takes place... What?

You know what I love about this whole thing? The lengths to which people will go to add meaning to something with as much inherent value as two halfwits drunkenly spraying bodily fluids onto or into one another.
Everyone's special, god loves you (to which I ask, wholeheartedly, WHICH GOD? Only about a million of those around over the millenia), and if you can bite your tongue enough, bend over enough, lick boots hard enough, you get the SUPER DUPER HOLY RAPTURE GRAND PRIZE!
Course, everyone who doesn't do the same, they stop being quite so special. Rather, they're all kinda dead and yet somehow tortured for eternity. But hey, fuck them, so long as I get the grand prize at the end! The big payoff for everything good I've ever done! Everything that under those circumstances kinda stops seeming good and looking way more selfish instead!
I mean, yeah, I could just run with the philosophy of doing right because it's the right thing to do, but where's the personal gain in that?! I need to KNOW that I'm scoring the points required for the aforementioned SUPER DUPER HOLY RAPTURE GRAND PRIZE!
Because simply knowing I did the right thing isn't enough. Independence isn't as good as being on the winning team. Belonging to something stupid is better than feeling alone, in a cold, indifferent universe that will eventually devour you so hard that you're nothing but dirt, assuming you don't have yourself burnt to ash instead. And a lie is better than a truth you can't handle.
Right.

pimpmonkey2382: Sorry, catholicism is a form of christianity, no matter who likes it. To deny that is to deny facts, but then again I come to expect that from the religious.
Conrad57: I gues I shouldn't leave yet. Ahem, ok... Given that the Bible itself defines Christianity, then what are your facts that Catholicism is Christianity? How do they take into account all relevant evidence, including matching the Cannons in the previous posts and linked article (I copied them from there) to the scriptures in previous posts? Two questions for you to answer, and not the way you make straw-man accusation traps disguised as questions. These are just two straightforward questions. Go for it.
Let's ignore the fact that "no true scotsman" is one of the classic logical fallacies. Let's do, because I'm here trying to dismantle your argument on the basis of logic; you're not really listening to that. Let's talk on the basis of religion.
I'm not exactly a religious sort, but your religion is atrocious if you're claiming that Catholics aren't Christians. Want proof?
Matthew 18:20:
And Jesus said: "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. 20"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."
That is to say, any group of people gathered together in the name of Jesus are, ipso facto, guided by him. Last I checked, there are a lot more than 3 Catholics in the world...jamotide

Religious people I ask you this: Even if the theories of evolution, general relativity and heliocentricity are proven false tomorrow, how does that help your cause?
It does not follow that any other theory is correct. I would simply mean we have no idea what happens. I wonder why this is so important to you.
I wonder why you don't do it like the pope or the church of England "Meh who cares, we'll just say god did it"

nadenitza: Yeah, basically what he says in this vid is "factualize" the bible. What got me thinking is could we really be deceived with all this "billions of years old" earth we've been told all the time, couse when you think about it, most of the stuff regarded as "oldest" does not predate more than ~4500-5000 years and in the vid he made some good examples of it... interesting stuff.
Umm there are plants alive today that must be older than that. Trees that have root systems with a weight of milliojns of kilos. These plants lived through wildfires and whatnot. These plants are up to a million years old and still alive!DMTrev

Yes and if you had read your own link, you would have noticed it describes the ones up to a million years as well. From what I understand about scientific theories, you can only proof them wrong. The origin of species is not a theory, it was just the name of Darwins book which describes his theory of evolution.

Yeah I know, I'm just not sure how the theory is called and can't be bothered to look. Basically, there are 2 concepts: - Man has evolved from a primate, basically the history of species
- Evolution
Well, 3, as there's classic Darwin's natural selection as well, but as I understand it, that was actually disproven. I might be wrong there tho.
At any rate, evolution and its history are two entirely different concepts. Evolution itself can get changed in definition and in its workings, but the basis of evolution has been observed and proved right. It's as factual as 'Earth is sphere-ish in shape' - it could be proven wrong, sure, but that's extremely unlikely.
