tinyE: The irony of Telika posting in a religious thread, look at his rep. XD

Novotnus: It's mistranslation. The correct number is 616 :)
Novotnus you are way too smart to be hanging out in a game forum, you know that right?

undeadcow: As an atheist, I think the best explanation I've ever hear of religion is that you "just have to have faith." Understanding the concept of blind faith is a riddle because at some level we have to just believe in something, even if it's science or absence of higher spiritual beings, because no one can know everything.
Not even faith, just use some logic and think for ourselves. Religion is some of the most man made things I've ever seen.
I worded it very poorly. I never meant to imply an "us versus them" mentality or that atheists are some sort of satanic cult or fad - I meant the opposite.

I apologize.

I'm working on 3 hours of sleep and requesting the thread for deletion. No matter how good the intentions are, any time I post about religion on here it always seems to get snowballed into something bad.

I apologize.
...hasn't gotten bad yet. I haven't went into Hitchens mode yet. :)

We're just having a bit of fun. This isn't bad, if you want bad, go over to someplace like MSN.com and have a look at their comment section when anything even tangentially related to religion comes up. Which oddly enough, is most articles.

Still, I worded it poorly. I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression :) Hence the deletion of the OP. We're finally getting back to normal after the holiday nightmares, I don't want to contribute to regression ;)

hedwards: Yep. And that mysteriously looks like a guy wearing glasses. So, therefore, we must kill everybody that's wearing glasses, or at least force them to wear contacts.
No! Get away from me! Glasses and beard STAY where they are!

But I like gaming :) And my IQ test showed only 124, so I'm 24 points away from Mensa (by polish standards) :)
How about some nice soothing music? :)

Ditto that Leucius. I didn't find your OP offensive, I just thought it sounded funny, hence the ":P" I threw in at the end.

EDIT
True: while I'm typing this I've also got my Fender on working the bridge to "Black Sabbath". Easy riff but to play it as fast and as long as Tommi does takes serious practice.

I agree with this. It's about using deciding based on observations; more an intellectual hypothesis than faith which despite an element of "unknown" has some link to experience.

Thats the good thing about thinking for yourself and using logic. Most are open to being wrong, where as religions claim to be truth no matter what.

I think it depends on the test. Wouldn't surprise me that Poland would have a different test, these tests don't really travel very well beyond the culture they're normed to. And ultimately, it's a percentile ranking on a recognized test, rather than a specific score.

If I really wanted to, I could get in, I'm just not sure that I want in.

undeadcow: For this reason a lot of established religion feels more like an attempt at culture and social control than some honest self actualization.
But religions are indeed considered to be a form of social control by social science.
Please don't delete original posts when they start an interesting discussion. :(

Personally I'm a godless metaphysicist, rooted in science but with a lot of odd beliefs as well. I used to be a reductionist and saw everything as atomic machinery. But now I'm an emergencist, fully apprised and amazed at the incredible power of emergence to create properties and syntheses far beyond the total of the parts.

I respect religious beliefs when they respect mine. But I am entirely unconvinced of an anthropomorphic deity, as it is nonsensical on far too many levels, and easily explained by the neural wiring of the human animal.

Yeap, it's different test and different method of counting points here. And it's the best at measuring one's ability to solve IQ tests, not much more :)
