To a cup of coffee coffee and milk are essential, but they should be followed by sugar. :-P
Judging from everything, I'm currently going with Jungian psychology.
A mixture of two substances if a solution, so if a door is a solution, what is the solution to and what needs to come after a solution?

Did you write all that correctly or is there a typo/word missing that's in there? I might have a lead going if this is written the way it is.
I suppose an action based on the solution needs to take place. Otherwise, the solution will be just a mere consideration without actual completion?
Sounds frighteningly like chemistry.

It's getting there. But, the door has to be made of two substances. The only way for this to be true given everything guessed so far, is that they aren't a physical substance, they would be a concept.

A solution is inherently made of 2 things. one is a solvent, one is soluble for that solvent.

No, the door wasn't made of two substances, The world describing the door could also be found in the dictionary as the word used for a mixture of two substances. It doesn't mean it has to have that exact meaning. I just used it as a clue. and i gave the answer to the clue: Solution. Now its up to you to figure out what the solution is for.

BTW, has nothing to do with chemistry or physics, May have something to do with programming, building etc.

Architecture?
Please tell me you're not just ripping off GoF patterns, and the answer is something like Bridge?

amok: Architecture?
Quite possibly, could be related to the skill known as problem solving.

GoF? What does this term refer too.

The Gang of Four, they are the group that wrote the book Design Patterns. It's the Bible of all object oriented programmers. While not all still appropriate, it's still a new way of thinking compared to the initial procedural approach a programmer would take. Elements of Reusable Design is a must read for any aspiring programmer.
So to break your post down by GoF programming, the door would be Adapter, the stairs would be Bridge.

Ah as said, its more related to problem solving, sometimes used in programming and building. (Of course, I picked these 2 specifically because of the SDLC, but it has nothing to do with either.)
