While I can understand your desire to promote your project, this is ultimately just spam. You couldn't even be asked to post a longer description of what your project is in your own words, instead just dropping a brief couple of sentences and a link. How many other forums have you also spammed with similar messages? If you were an established member looking to share something you're involved in with the community you're already a part of that would be one thing, but simple spam like this is not a good way to create a positive impression of your project.
I do believe there was another initial post on this. Might have been good to just update that one, or at least link to it; but still, there are countless "useless" posts here that I'd consider spam before this one.
As it's game-related I don't mind the self-promotion. I wouldn't have heard of the Kickstarter otherwise since I don't usually frequent the Kickstarter site.

A way to think about it is to consider what your opinion would be if every Kickstarter involving a game with some kind of "old-school" mechanics posted a thread here advertising their project. Along with all old-school style indie games just wanting some free advertising for their game. At the moment it doesn't seem particularly spammy as we don't get too many of these, but if it increased to a couple a day, then to over 10 or 20 a day, would you consider that to be spam? Even though the content of each individual post hadn't changed at all.

It's one thing if someone is actually a part of the community and wants to bring their project to the attention of the community, but it's a whole other thing when you've just got people from projects creating accounts on numerous gaming-related sites for the sole purpose of spamming posts like this one. We don't consider it particularly annoying yet because the volume of such posts is still pretty low, but I see that as all the more reason to discourage this kind of behavior before every small development team starts considering it a viable advertising route.

Something that may be worthwhile to consider is having a single thread in which Kickstarter projects can be advertised (we might already have one, for all I know), then if people decide to ignore that thread and create new ones for extra visibility then it will be rather obvious that they're just thumbing their nose at the community and spamming the forums.

For your information this is the ONLY forum I've posted on for the last 4 days or so. While you could argue over whether or not it would have been wiser to simply post this update in the original thread, it's totally relevant and by no reasonable definition spam. These forums have shown a fair amount of interest in the project and I was merely providing an update. Antharion is not just a game with "old-school mechanics", it's a game that tries to recreate the experience of classics like Ultima, Wizardry and Pool of Radiance. If this isn't relevant to these forums then I don't know what is.

Seeing as the last post in that thread was only about a week ago it certainly raises the question of why you didn't just continue that thread and instead felt the need to make an entirely new one.
I don't mind that he posted and I am glad for the information. That is one of the reason why I read this forum.

Sounds like the charges have been downgraded from spamming to poor forum etiquette, which I'll gladly plead guilty to.
On the sidenote, I'm thinking of updating the Kickstarter thread with links to one discussion thread per project, just to keep things tidy and to raise awareness in the project :)

That's a good idea. I've been reluctant to check that thread recently because it seems too messy.
I've pledged as much as I'm willing to risk on an unknown developer, but I hope you continue apace and meet your goal.
i agree, im glad posts like this exists if its game related and about something i would enjoy and otherwise probably wouldnt have heard of.

thanks for the info

Do you mean 20 posts a day that are generating interest and in which the OP is involved in the discussion? Then, no, I wouldn't consider them spam at all.
