Objective-based FPS games.

Think NOLF, Goldeneye or Timesplitters.

We talk a lot about isometric CRPGs or point and click adventure games being dead (the latter of which is no longer true and maybe never was, but people say it anyway).

How come no one points out that objective-based first-person action games are basically dead? Can anyone think of a decent modern one? They're either pure shooting or RPG hybrids, never a NOLF style shooter with objectives, open maps and stealth aspects.

Maybe I'll look stupid as a result, but does Dishonored counts? It seems to fit all the criterias quite well.

I haven't played it yet, can't wait to do so. That said I thought it was more of a direct Stealth game with RPG elements.
I'm not sure if it counts as a genre or anything like that. Shooter with objectives, open maps and stealth aspect and the first two things that came to my mind were Crysis 2 and Far Cry 3.

You can throw in Crysis 1 and, presumably, 3.
Google google on the wall tells me weird thing (CoD, MoH & BF among others are objective-based FPS games?)
I'd definitely like to play a few to get a better idea, do any of the Rainbow Six games count?
If not, where can I pick up some?

At the risk of sounding out of the loop, isn't Dishonored relatively close to Thief in style? I haven't played it but I've heard some comparisons...
Come to think of it, they're aren't that many first-person stealth games anyway.
A genre is dead only when none are loyal to it. ;)
The new Black Ops II had optional objectives.

Xotic? but the objective is time or score, not narrative objectives. But Half Life 2? (not recent...)
People mentioning Crysis and such... I don't mean objectives like "go here and kill X" or "go here and flip switch B." I mean shit like finding hidden papers or surveillance or sneaking into a complex or whatever else.

Again, think NOLF. What is a modern NOLF?

Again, Black Ops II.

While it is slightly more linear and missing the RPG elements of NOLF 2, those objectives are actually optional for the most part. Meaning they actually alter the story.
It's been a while. A long while in fact, but didn't Return to Castle Wolfenstein have elements of that? I never played more than a demo (if even that, I can't really recall), but I thought, for some unknowable reason, that it did.

Maybe, hard to remember, but that ain't no modern game.
I think the most recent AvP also had vibes of this. But I only briefly played it as a marine.
