This may sound like a silly suggestion given the size of the company, but with Kickstarter now looking like a genuine method of game funding rather than a once-in-a-lifetime sort of deal that many thought it would be during the Double Fine Adventure pledge, is there any chance that a small team within CD Projekt could start up their own old-school RPG idea using crowd funding?

I can see that the future for CDP is going to be primarily big, expensive multi-platform games, so I think it would be great if there could also be at least be a few designers and programmers that could make smaller, GOG-exclusive games for us. And if they use Kickstarter, they wouldn't have to worry about turning much of a profit since all of the costs would be covered up front.

I had been highly anticipating the Wasteland 2 project, but with the most recent update it looks like Fargo may be turning it away from a classic single-player CRPG and more towards a "shared, social" online experience. That's a huge disappointment for me, so barring whatever Chris Avellone comes up with later on, I figured the next best designers who could make a great classic RPG would be CDP.

Any thoughts? I know this is a pipe dream but I'm hopeful anyway.

I don't mean to support GOG, I mean for CDP to make a new, classic RPG.
Has CDP ever shown any desire or inclination to make a classic RPG, let alone one through Kickstarter? With the Witcher series being as commercially successful as it is, I don't see why they would bother.

Read his comments again. Its still going to be a singleplayer hardcore rpg (most likely no multiplayer/coop).And judging by the bulk of the comments, no one wants it either.

Yeah it's funny how so many people claim to be hardcore fans of old school RPGs, but can't seem to read Brian Fargo's text update properly causing this huge overreaction. Reading comprehension is an important skill for enjoying old school RPGs. The blind outrage being expressed enmasse toward Brian Fargo is not only surprising but also disappointing.

I've seen both overreactions and counter-overreactions from both sides so far, but I haven't been a part of any of it. I certainly haven't read any "blind outrage" that you apparently have. Most of the people protesting have legit concerns from my point of view. I know he's planning on issuing another update to address them, I'm just saying that from what he's written so far, it looks like it may not end up being quite the game I hoped it would be at the start.

This sounds like what happens in Dark Souls and Demon's Souls. It's not gonna turn into an MMO lol.
Naah. From the last investor presentation (or was it the one before that?), their schedule is pretty much full with various unannounced projects till 2015 or so.

thanks for that, i'm an outsider to this game so i don't think my opinion will hurt anyone. i'm not sure why people are upset about it. it clearly says it's a single player affair, he even said multiplayer would've been a design issue since the game is narrative heavy and wants people to have their own individual choices affect the game and world. the only multiplayer aspect i read were small insignificant things like messaging eachother or sending items. if people aren't happy about that then why not 'block' these features from happening in game?

The primary issue is, I think, that in the update Fargo said he would use some of the money to hire new team members specifically to build in these new social features. So, people are upset that significant funds will be diverted away from more relevant, less controversial items such as better AI, graphics, writing, and so on.

We'll see what happens.
