I see that anyone who bought the Witcher 2 will get access to the Gog version as a back up for free. I wonder what the chances of them doing the same deal for the 1st Witcher. I have the enhanced edition already but it would be nice to have a back up of it (not nice enough to pay $10 for a back-up of a game I have played and own though).

Well, officially there is no word about it but I think it would be fair solution in the end. :)
Well I hope they do, I travel alot and I can't bring my physical games with me. I would love it if I could become a premium member and get access to file hosting (save games and mods).

I will probably buy the Witcher 2 via physical media. I tend not to buy physical media anymore but considering it is an awesome game and they deliver a nice product, the box looks good, the manual looks good, music CDs etc.
But having an electronic back up for travelling is nice and means I don't need to fiddle with CDs.

Edit: vote +1ed.

Install the game and patch it, then you're good to go. No connection needed, no disc needed, just double-click and play (unless you got it from Steam, of course, but then you wouldn't mention "physical").

Of course it'd be nice if they did offer the same solution for The Witcher 1 as they soon shall for the sequel, but the above is a working solution in the meantime (personally, I paid the $10 "service fee" to get a discless install).

I was thinking this myself, but I'm not sure I even still have the CD-key. My copy (from amazon) shipped without one, was a common problem at the time apparently. Had to e-mail either Atari or CD Projekt RED with iirc the barcode to get one. Maybe I still have the e-mail hmm.
When I say travel, last time I was out of the country for 16 months and with employment opportunities being what they are, I may leave again for even longer. So for me it's more of having a game library available online.

Right, your question seemed very focused on The Witcher though, so that's why my response was such as well.

Well, one step at a time : )
I am grateful that you put in the effort to aid me as you thought I needed it. It is appreciated. I may even have use of that knowledge in the future : )
+1

I have WI Enhanced, it would be nice to have a back up, but its cheap as chips either way.
My guess? Server / bandwidth overload. :p

I'd love to have my Steam version registered here, but it's not a problem if it isn't.
Yeah why not offer backups to every game you buy away from Gog (but is being sold on Gog).Note - being sarcastic lol

Witcher is a special case because the sister company (CD project) are the devs for the game. I am not that bothered but if they are letting people back up the witcher 2, then why not 1. Not gonna complain if they don't, more than anything I am just curious if they plan to do it.
