How it's going? Are you ok?

bansama: All I'm going to say is, that's the strongest earth quake I've ever experienced. Thankfully, family and I are unscathed.
That's good to know. Hope everything works out

Seems that they're making good progress at the nuclear plant, they put back some power and are expected to start cooling some of the reactors tomorrow.

A tweet about 4 hours ago from the PM's Office states "Pressure inside the container vessel at Unit 3 reactor has risen despite efforts to cool the reactor." and "(Cont) We're considering taking measures to lower pressure inside its container vessel, but the situation is not imminent."

So there's still a few problems to be faced.

My understanding is this "pressure" is a build up of steam and Hydrogen, not a good idea to release but I dont see what else they can do.

Of course, the situation is far from being safe. But we can assume that the restoring of elecrtic power in reactors 5 & 6 and the fact they are now able to cool them down is a good step towards normalization of the situation.

I'm a bit surprised by this tweet, however, because yesterday official services announced that the pressure inside reactor No 3 had lowered and there was no need anymore to vent some gases inside : http://www3.nhk.or.jp/daily/english/20_23.html I guess the situation has evolved. And no news from that on TV news this morning, but I can have missed it...
Supposedy smoke coming out of two reactors, on the uphand power has been partially restored to the plant
Latest news affecting our region is that milk and spinach from certain parts of the prefecture are not to be sent to market due to their radiation content. It's also been raining for most of the day, prompting the issuance of guidelines on what to do if you go outside (and are worried about the possible radiation contained in the rain).

The advice not surprisingly, is simply, don't go outside unless it's emergency. Cover up skin and hair and if you or your clothes get wet, to shower/wash the clothes immediately on going indoors.

The UK Embassy now underline the travel advice recommending that we leave the area. But I won't be doing that until they change the wording from "should consider..." to "urge...".

The Embassy also started handing out stable iodine tablets (two doses) -- but due to several reasons, I didn't try to go up to Tokyo in an attempt to get some.
We are back from Osaka,

It was a nice trip as a short holiday but as carrying out the "recommendation" of the German Embassy is was an ultimate failure.

Just let my say this: The Good Will was there, from the embassy employees, but they had exactly NO PLAN about anything. They were as overrun by the situation as anybody else.

So until they change "recommended" to "ordered" with free ticket I am staying.
The radioaktive effects are still limited to the immediate area of Fukushima.

I met xa_chan in Osaka and we had a good time. Nice guy! :)

Glad you're back in Tokyo and that you enjoyed your stay in Kansai!! It was very nice to meet you too, maybe we'll meet again if I go to Tokyo one of these days?

Sure, just drop us a note :) We can demonstrate with Tokyo people against Tepco.

Lol! why not? But I think there won't be much left from TEPCO once this whole problem will be over, people won't ever forget how that company tricked everybody by letting them think they did the maintenance when they actually did nothing.

Japanese people are not aggressive people, but they don't like to be fooled, especially on such a question.

I do wish this nuclear incident will be the occasion for the whole japanese society to think a lot about the problem and jump ahead with new and better solutions.
Been another large increase in seismic activity this morning. Hence why I'm awake at 8 am =/ My wife's laughing her head off and thinks I'm walking seismograph due to the fact I feel these damn quakes far sooner than she does. Ugh.
Now maybe we can make the cost of solar and other real clean energy cheaper to have and do?
