Marzooker: Love you. ;)
Love you too, but I think by posting again in this thread you might have unmarzooker'd everyone?
That is the single greatest thing ever posted in this forum. XD

Elmofongo: Why was disco so hated? Especially coming from rock/metal musicians/fans?
Right wing motivated "disco sucks" movement saw to the death of disco. mass rallies involved record burnings, and quite a lot of bigotry.

Not over here it didn't. The only things American's have ever burned were rock records and books. There was one famous "Disco Demolition" night promo during a White Sox game at the old Comiskey Park in 1979, and there was a lot of burning but it wasn't irate conservatives setting fire to records, it was drunk baseball fans setting fire to the stadium. :P No one was hurt thank god so looking back on it the whole event was pretty hilarious.

Why do people hate Bieber? It's mainly because it's mindless pop with little to no redeeming value. I'm sure there's a few exceptions, but the decadence and self indulgence of it all pretty much assured that it would die a fiery death before too long.

For me, it was him suggesting that Anne Frank would have been a "Belieber"

SirPrimalform: Guys, guys, you're being marzooker'd.
Indeed.

Marzooker: Anyone can answer but this would be especially useful if you actually lived in the 70s.
I was a child in the 70s, so my answer may reflect that since Disco was terrifying to a lot of us children at the time. I will say, though, that in the 1970s I used to listen to a station called KMET which was the album rock station of Los Angeles. As a kid, I used to love listening to anything by former Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and especially AC/DC (The first albums I bought myself were AC/DC Let There Be Rock and Led Zeppelin II.) I did own one disco single "Goodnight Tonight" by Wings, but that's Paul McCartney and he was a Beatle. My favorite songs were Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and Slow Ride by Foghat. I also had Telephone Line by ELO as well as their greatest hits album. ELO was definitely a Beatles influenced pop act.

I guess that lands me in rock, and it established my place as a Metalhead/Rocker in the 1980s as a teenager.

A long time age, there was once a bard who called himself Marzooker. He traveled to a kingdom located, far in the north, where people loved music more than anything else. He arrived during the winter and stopped at every village along his way to the King's castle. He told all the villagers of all the villages he stopped at, that one week from now in front of the great forest(a massive forest located in the northern part of the kingdom), he will play for them the greatest song ever made. The villagers were excited and planned to see him play the greatest song ever made. This bard, finally reached the King's castle and told the King and his Queen, a week from now, in front of the great forest, he will play the greatest song ever made. The King and Queen were excited and sent messengers to every noble in their kingdom notifying them that, a week later, a mysterious bard will play the greatest song ever made in front of the great forest. Finally, a week passed. The day was very cold and it was snowing. In front of the great forest, were tens of thousands of peasants, hundreds of nobles. The King and Queen also showed up and their army acted as security. They were all in front of a small stage Marzooker built but this bard was nowhere to be seen. Finally he showed up 1 hour later and the people forgot about how cold and miserable they were... Then he said, to the tens of thousands of people..."Are you all ready for the greatest song ever made!?" and the people roared with excitement and happiness. Then suddenly after a devilish smile, Marzooker runs off the stage and away from the crowd, into the nearby forest and he was never seen again. There are rumors, he traveled further north to another Kingdom and did the same thing. There are also rumors that he is really an immortal and is a member of GOG general discussion today...

I agree with you on that. If you look up Disco Demolition Night on Youtube, you will find some of the most hilarious "serious" news you will ever see. After that, John Travolta ushered in a new Pop Country craze that lasted a few weeks, then the 80s came in with New Wave and Metal as the new Disco and Rock. In essence, Disco didn't really die, it just morphed into New Romantic and the type of music Thompson Twins, Human League, Duran Duran and so many other bands did. Some call it New Wave, but true New Wave was more of a post-punk style with songs like 99 Luftbaloons.
In the US, bands like The Tubes and Wall Of Voodoo brought in New Wave along with The Romantics.

The British Glam Rock of the early 70s was what morphed into New Romantic. Many of the stars of that movement, like Steve Strange or Boy George, used to be Bowie kids that went to clubs dessed as Ziggy or Aladdin Sane.

Disco was the first agressively gay Amercian music style, while Glam Rock was its British equivalent. There were overlaps and common influences, like Little Richard, but both styles were mostly distinct and evolved differently.
OT
What do they say at a Grateful Dead concert when the drugs run out?

"Man, these guys suck!"
On a lark the wife picked up a KC and the Sunshine Band album last year... and it's quite good. Can't say that I "like" disco now, but I certainly have a new-found tolerance for it. And it IS related to funk, and funk is cool.

He's an arrogant dude who doesn't know what "Germany" is.
Also the Anne Frank issue where he think she will definitely be his fan..
