I have $50 to spend. What are some less known (but great) games out now that I (or anyone else) should definitely consider buying?

These games do not have to be on GOG.com.

EDIT: I was a bit unclear, I meant games that are relatively new (games that came out this year or last).

Space Rangers 2 Reboot ($9.99)
FTL (GOG) ($9.99)
Orcs Must Die 2 ($14.99)
King of Dragon Pass (GOG) ($5.99)
Children of the Nile ($11.98 )

I guess they're not that less known overall but still great games :)

If you don't want a semi-random list of other people's favourite games, tell us which games and genres do you like the most.

Sands of Time, Citizen Kabuto, Fallout, Deus Ex, Homeworld (if available somewhere), No one lives forever, Stalker, Planescape Torment, uh... are you asking for people's favorite games ?

For the less known :

- FTL is a hit or miss, depending on the player (quite a hit on me, I must say).

- XIII is an underrated shooter, but one of my favorite of all times.

- Divine Divinity is a great top-down rpg that I had completely overlooked.

- Citizen Kabuto is an awesome hilarious game that borrows from all genres.

- Master of Magic is a great merging of Civ and HOMM gameplays.

Uh, and uhhh..

Value for money -

IndieRoyale
IndieGala
Humble Bundle

and then get Torchlight II

after the excess of games, you might want to chill out a bit, so get Proteus EP
I'd recommend getting Perimeter while you still can. It's a wonderful RTS. I'm enjoying the hell out of Torchlight 2 right now, so it's worth considering if you're at all into aRPGs.

And if you don't mind a bit of DRM, 3D Minigolf adventures is one of the most interesting minigolf simulators I've seen. I got it at Gamefly, a bit overpriced at $10, but sometimes it goes on sale.
$25 gets you a Kiwi, beta access, DRM-free soundtrack and 250 in-game credits on the glorious Path of Exile.

Then use the remaining $20 to buy Torchlight 2, and you've got yourself an ARPG paradise. $5 is enough for in-between snacks to prevent yourself from starving to death while playing these two.

Dark Souls. It's basically as glorious as everyone says. The PC port is easily fixed with the help of unofficial patches and mods (it has its own Nexus page now) and it's now superior to the consoles.

It's pricey, although you can get it for a fraction of the Steam price if you know where to look.
