HoneyBakedHam: But I am left unclear about "white knight" which seems like, from the testimony, that moot guessed at to satisfy the question rather than to admit either what it really meant or that he didn't know.
Vestin: I thinks it's quite simple - just imagine trying to explain a term like "white knight" or "moralfag" to a clearly biased audience. Being asked about "tits or gtfo" or the significance of the pool being closed would be a relief, in comparison ;P.
Actually, my point is that I don't know what "white knight" means...
I understand it in terms of the greater culture, but I don't use 4chan and while I tend to know what most Internet culture memes are, this one I don't. If I had to guess, I'd liken it to "white hat" but with 4chan, who knows... those guys think "fag" is funny, so who knows...
(note: I looked it up... so now I know)
There are like a billion little culture nuggets, and most of them of useless. I mean, rickrolling was funny, but it got old, and I'm not surprised that it is really only understood by a certain part of the culture.
But these guys aren't biased... They don't care. moot is just witness, and I read the entire transcript and think he comported himself with grace and maturity that is... surprising, actually. But these lawyers just want facts so they can prosecute (or defend, depending) the kid who posted Palin's email...
I say Palin is fair game. Let the kid go. He did a public service, even if he did choose a weird avenue to post information.
