If you've ever heard of 4chan, you'll know it's the seedy underbelly of the seedy underbelly of the Internet. But recently the FBI had the 4chan's de facto creator, Moot give testimony over his site after some guy posted Sarah Palin's email account information on there. It's just so funny how these obviously middle aged government personnel ask this person about Rick Rolling and /b/tards.
Q. And is there any significance to "new fags"?
A. That is the term used to describe new users to
the site.
Q. What about "b tard"?
A. It's a term that users of the /b/- Random
board use for themselves.
Q. What about "troll"?
A. Troublemaker.
Q. "404"?
A. 404 is the status code for not found. It
means essentially gone or not found.
Q. "Rickroll"?
A. Rickroll is a mean or Internet kind of trend
that started on 4chan where users -- it basically a bait
and switch. Users link you to a video of Rick Astley
performing Never Gonna Give You Up.

Some time later:
Q. And the term "rickroll" you said it tries to
make people go to a site where they think it is going to
be one thing, but it is a video of Rick Astley, is that
right?
A. Yes.
Q. He was some kind of singer?
A. Yes.
Q. It's a joke?
A. Yes.

Rickroll is a "mean"? Meme! MEME! The transcript person is probably another middle aged government personnel kinda fellow.
Never visited the site myself, but I've seen people doing so at the occasional LAN party. All I ever hear about the place, and those few seconds of seeing it myself, make glad I don't visit. :-S
Oh the government... they will never understand...
Ouch.
File this in Wikipedia under "out of touch".
Is it out of touch or more that the lawyers are trying to make sure that everything is crystal clear for the record.
Having worked with a number of lawyers they'll regularly ask questions just to get the answers on record even if they themselves know it.

I think asking about the Rickroll is in no way relevant to the case at hand.

Not necessarily.
The FBI, as classically incompetent as they tend to be, know how to make a case. You cover EVERY stone. Anything you think could possibly come up in a court of law and potentially lead to a mistrial, you cover. And you make sure you get the definition that is relevant.

I'm 43.... To some, that is middle aged.
I just gave a presentation on Internet Memes to a University group a few months ago.
So I guess what I'm saying is... Get Off My Lawn!
This makes me sad when I think that in 40 years we will have potential b-tards in public office.
I have to say this... I am getting a little sick and tired of seeing Rick Astley's good name being dragged through the mud in yet another American court case.
He's a good boy, he's done nothing wrong, and his family shouldn't have to shoulder the burden of this kind of pain any longer!

4chan destroyed my soul and turned me into the curmudgeon who now stands before you.
The idiocy, the rule 34ing, the child porn, and the complete lack of compassion have all but ruined me. I'm getting a little dramatic, but you get my point.
