My DS's top screen stopped working a few months ago, so I'm probably going to buy a 3DS to serve as a replacement. There are also a ton of PSP games I've missed out on, so I'll pick up a Vita when its price is cut.

Kind of weird that I'm buying both systems to play their predecessor's games.

Note that Vita is only going to be backwards compatible with games on the PSN store which is somewhat incomplete (Birth By Sleep being the biggest one) and in some cases overpriced.

Yeah, if you're wanting to play PSP games, you have to get an old model PSP or have the cash for a big memory stick and downloads after getting VIta. And if you're willing to go the download route, you may be better getting the PSP Go (That is, after making sure all the games you want are still downloadable for it).

Yeah, I was disappointed by this. But I don't mind going the download-only route. I'm tired of buying used games that the developers get no money from, and most of the games I want are on PSN.

I'm buying both but it looks like Vita wil be my first choice. I still have terrible backlog on my NDS and PSP so untill price on Vita will be reasonable I will stick with all the games I have not yet finished.

Also of note regarding the Vita:

* No internal memory, meaning a memory card is mandatory, and not included.
* Proprietary memory cards instead of SD cards or Memory Sticks, priced at absurd levels (between $25 for 4gb and $100 for 32gb)
* The Media Center is inaccessible if your firmware is not up to date

I have a 3DS and I love it. The battery life is definitely short, but it's not that bad, especially if you leave the wireless off. I usually get 5-ish hours without needing to plug in.

The 3DS-specific games lineup isn't great yet, but it's getting better.

So far the games I'm interested in:
-Super Mario 3D Land
-Mario Kart 7
-Sonic Generations
-Nano Assault
-Animal Crossing
-The inevitable Pokemon game
-Tales of the Abyss
-Heroes of Ruin
-Monster Hunter

Sadly most aren't out yet, or even have a release date. D:

I already have a 3DS, and im definatey getting Vita too, possibly 1 or 2 months after launch. I liked and played my PSP much more than i did on my DS, so i do expect Vita to be better for me.

Also, if you want to play PSP games, i seriously recommend you get an old PSP model so you dont have to rely on PSN availability. Trust me, there are a lof of great PSP games missing on PSN. ANd you can get a PSP dirty cheap now anyway.
I would take Sonic Generations off your list, if i were you. I was expecting a lot from it, and i catually wanted to buy it, until i read some user reviews and found out that the game is nothing compared to its console counterparts. Everyone complained that level design is dumb and the game lenght is about 1 or 2 hours. I would never ever pay 40 dollars for a game thats 2 hours short.

Yeah, it's a bit sad. I'm hoping some interesting ones come out in the next few months, after I finish my DS backlog. I already finished Ocarina of TIme (the 3D actually does add to the game).

I think the 3DS is going to be a slow-growing platform. But I'm fine with that.

Buy a replacement top screen from dealextreme. Cheaper. It isn't even THAT hard to replace. I have learned that the next time I should also buy a replacement case, just for the goddamn screws getting stripped, but eh.

Personally, I went for the 3ds Zelda bundle. No real killer apps so far, but I am hoping for MGS3.

The problem with my top screen is that the screen goes black after turning the DS on. I'm not sure if a replacement screen would be able to fix it. I hear that the black screen is caused by the cables in the hinge.

The title of the thread implies you're only getting one, but the OP seems to state that you're going to get both so I'm slightly confused.
