Some of the theaters around here are now charging $20 for a 3D movie ticket. Bullshit. I can get a Blu-Ray copy of that same movie for $20 on Amazon. Needless to say, I will not be going to a 3D movie again anytime soon, and I suggest you all do the same.
$19AU here and another $1 for the glasses unless you remember to keep them from last time. Deluxe screening rooms can add another $5.
3D movies are never on the 'tight arse Tuesday' (Yes, that's how a few actually advertise it) discounts at nearby cinemas as well. Mind you, I normally skip cinema releases due to all the screaming little kids, other people using mobiles to text and chat during the film and uncomfortable seats stuffed with stale food.
$20 for a 3D movie? Damn cheap if you ask me. Right now, $20 is what we pay for a normal 2D movie. 3D, if you're lucky will cost around $30. More if you're unlucky. And don't even think about keeping the glasses. They search you for them if you "lose" them.

It used to be that you could trust children wouldn't be in an R-rated movie, but I swear to God, someone brought their baby to 30 Days of Night, that freaky horror movie. Also, seeing any movie on opening day is a terrible idea, as the theater will be filled with people who don't shut up. The only time teenagers will ever shut up on those days is if it's an extremely engaging movie for them, which usually means it's shit like Transformers 2: Check Out These Two Racist Robots That Make The PSP Squirrels Look Tasteful.

A bunch of idiots at my school like to punch out the lenses and wear them around like they're some sort of fashion item. College is five months away, can't wait, except for all the awesome people I will also be leaving behind.

What?, you shouldn't be in an R rated film either! I saw Repo Men and the lady next to me had a baby and I expected him to annoy me and stuff. Surprisingly the baby didn't make a single sound the whole movie, he just sat there staring at me. Also when I bought the ticket for Repo Men the lady at the counter asked if I was 25 because I had to be 25 to watch the movie, I am pretty sure she may have been a little bit loca.
And where the hell do you live? Cause here in DC it's like $13 or 14.

That's odd. More movies are coming out on 3D and lots of tickets got sold that way. I know if the demand is high, the prices go higher but all they're going to do is make people not see the bloody movie, specially if they can watch it sans 3d elsewhere. Way to shoot yourself in the foot.
Oh well, at times like these I like living in a third world country. 3D movie prices here are $7.00 though we do get the movies a couple of weeks later, unless it's a world wide release.
The movie industry is fucking up itself like the music once did with Napster. Paying a premium at the movies once is fine, paying it all the time is a no go for me.

And this is why I only go to the movies once a year, at most.
I go to the movies all the time. I think film is my favorite form of entertainment.
I never went to a theater since 2000 and DVD players were cheap enough for me to save money by getting the DVD's cheaper than tickets. That and theaters suck, tons of people you don't like surrounding you is just one of many reasons I stopped going when I was a kid, I NEVER ENJOYED THEATERS!

Why shouldn't I be in an r-rated movie? I'm 18 now. Also, I live in Texas, near Dallas.
Wait, you have to be 25 to see R-rated films in D.C.? Crazy!

Nah, the woman was just an idiot. I was just giving you a hard time, it's not like I'm that much older than you, but you were definitely not 18 when 30 Days came out! Remind me not to go to Dallas since movies are crazy expensive there.

I feel like the movie theater is part of the experience, the movie popcorn, the big screen, the loudness, sharing the experience with other people (laughing, crying, etc...).

Today was a good movie day for me. My boss let myself and a few others take an extended lunch to go see a movie (our main manager was out for the week). Took a 2 hour lunch, went to see Hot Tub Time Machine, and since it was an early showing it only cost $8 (no 3D of course).
Anyway, as for the movie. It's completely absurd and ridiculous, but its actually funny. I recommend it if you want a mindless slighly raunchy comedy.

Here digital 3D cost $15, same as regular 2D films, and IMAX or other specialised theatres probably cost around $20, but the IMAX are also insanely high resolution, not just 3D.
I only go to $10 or $15 specials for IMAX or 3D. I never pay the full price.
