Happy Pi Day!

http://www.collegehumor.com/video/6446891/what-pi-sounds-like

(I just hope that's the real video and not some spoof, didn't check because of that insane amount of javascript that page uses)

EDIT: Just watched it, it is the real video. A brillant masterpiece, given to us by nature itself.

I think it is only the USA that have Pi-Day today...
Every time i see that kind of things i wonder when US and UK switch to NORMAL dating / lenght / weight units. ;p

Yes, they use normal date format, but still lack in driving on the right side of the street or use the proper meter index :)

You're saying that 5 mm or 18 cm or 120 m is better than 5 1/4 inch, 1/6 out of 1/4 inch and similar? No way! /s

Here in China they don't observe it, but currently it's 2012/3/14, so I'm observing it anyways.

Yeah, and saying 0.456 liter of water equals 1 lbs is better than saying 1 liter is approx. 1 kilo :D

We won't be. The US was one of the few countries with a workable system of measure prior to the introduction of the metric system. Additionally, the scale of the job it would take to phase out the customary measurements and phase in metric ones would be nigh insurmountable.

We do use metric for some things like medication, some cars and softdrinks, but imagine how far Europe would have been down the road if they hadn't gotten to build from scratch and had to do it at once.
I think "Good Omens" deserve a quote here, on the standard units used once upon a time

NOTE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AND AMERICANS: One shilling = Five Pee. It helps to understand the antique finances of the Witchfinder Army if you know the original British monetary system: Two farthings = One Ha'penny. Two ha'pennies = One Penny. Three pennies = A Thrupenny Bit. Two Thrupences = A Sixpence. Two Sixpences = One Shilling, or Bob. Two Bob = A Florin. One Florin and One Sixpence = Half a Crown. Four Half Crowns = Ten Bob Note. Two Ten Bob Notes = One Pound (or 240 pennies). One Pound and One Shilling = One Guinea.

The British resisted decimalized currency for a long time because they thought it was too complicated.

UK has switched already. It's only the US now. And I don't really mind if they stick to their inches and feet, as it doesn't really concern me most of the time, but the dates are bloody confusing.

An imperial gallon of water weighs as close as makes no difference ten pounds.

My birthday is "approximate Pi day". 22/7.

It's either 2012/3/14 or H24/3/14, here. Although, technically, it's not a pie day, but a cookie day ;)
