CarrionCrow: Well, I've played Aarklash and beat it. Own Blackguards but haven't tried it yet. Probably going to get Banner Saga in the next couple minutes.
As for Aarklash, it's got pretty good active pause-based combat that reminds me of fighting in Icewind Dale.
Only problem is, the entire game is centered around that and it isn't so hot in all the other areas. You get different characters and fair to moderate amounts of customization, but everything else isn't good, and even the combat takes a hit when you get jumped by enemy parties while you're neckdeep in combat with a party that you know is built to be a challenge for your foursome of characters.
When that happens? Might as well kiss your ass goodbye and resign yourself to starting from your last quicksave.
Story's forgettable, voice acting's hit and miss at best, and it ends on a cliffhanger that will in all probability never be resolved in a sequel.

donsanderson: Thanks, that's what I needed, it's of no interest to me without a strong story.

Edit, from the game card: "Take part in an epic campaign, mixing adventure and tactical combat, following a rich storyline that will transport you into the fantasy world of Aarklash." That didn't seem to jive with the reviews at all. :(
The game *is* pretty much all tactical combat. Its good at what it does :)

CarrionCrow: Your recommendation for Grimrock 2 is reminding me of Escape Goat. And I hate/love the frigging crap out of Escape Goat. So I know that following your advice is going to be enjoyment mixed with more than a fair bit of pain.
I suggest you try the first game, first (heh). There are quite a few complaints about the the game's timed puzzles and its pseudo turn-based, pseudo real-time battles. Personally, they didn't bother me, but I heard this complaint quite a bit during the pre-order period of the second game.

GoG is starting to bore me. Everything is just so mainstream and "same-y" - another shooter, oh look an RPG, whoopie do a turn based strategy game. None of the games appeal to me and my lifestyle. You see, I'm fascinated with cartoons and have a borderline personality disorder that causes me to want to have sex with birds. Is there nothing on GoG for me???

LOL are you f-ing kidding me? I'm looking at the flash deals, clicking on games I don't know and I just found the weirdest f@$king game ever. I'm not sure if it's a joke or not, or just really, really, REALLY Japanese.

Hatoti Boyfriend? Something like that? LOL is that for real? Please tell me someone in here has played this I need a good laugh.

All right, you have to go sit in the "no recommending stuff, even in a joking way" corner with Sinistar. As if I didn't have enough shit, I'm now contemplating buying the bird-dating sim thanks to your comments! =)

Yep, Hatoful Boyfriend.

My daughter saw this one when it first appeared on GOG and almost lost her mind. So I grabbed it in this sale for her as a Christmas present. I'm not sure if I should feel good about it or unclean...

AgentBirdnest: That pretty much describes my entire existence.
Thanks for the summary. Maybe I'll finally give it a try.

katya_stevens: I found it oddly reassuring to spend time meticulously digging mine shafts in Terraria, occasionally interspersed with moments of joy at finding just the right ore I needed to melt into bars to make into my next weapon, gemstones to adorn a magic staff or a robe, or even a hidden chest in the world/concern or 'not again' (depending on how good my armour and weapons were) at seeing enemies approaching. A good portion of the hours I've played it were probably spent creating perfect horizontal paths of three squares high and long vertical shafts of two squares wide.

(Yes, I have obsessive qualities, thank you for noticing :P)
It's okay. You aren't the only one. ;)

Stilton: Snowy Stilton has returned!

My click-the-avatar Viking snowstorm went awol for a few hours (no idea why) but now he is back and all is right and good in the world! Snowy Stilton has not left the buiiiildiiiing!

Sorry, I got a bit excited there...everything's okay now, honestly...
Ho yeah, great :D
It's a more peacefull snow than my Gimp trial, lol... Snowstorm !!! (but it goes well with your Vikking stuff)...

Stilton: I know, and I'm upset (picture a H-U-G-E hairy Viking all wet-eyed because he's lost his snow).

I changed the picture to a slightly larger one (at Hyper's request), applied the snow, and now it won't work. Nor will the one I used before. I'm hoping its a bug that a PC restart/browser/general cleanup will cure, otherwise I fear the sadness will continue.

Thank you for your concern, little bird - it makes me feel better that people notice these things ;-)

LaPtiteBete: Ho... sad thing...
Here you are, a snowy Stillton !

Grilledfish: I just checked the main page and thought I saw "The Bladder Saga" and I laughed. :D

LaPtiteBete: Heehee, time to go to bed ? :D
That's amazing, thank you!

I've suddenly got him working again and I tried replacing him with yours, but it didn't work. I think the larger snow gifs freeze up (funny!) because they're too 'busy.' Little Stilton works fine, though, so we have him back ;-)

AgentBirdnest: I wanna talk about Terraria. Mainly - What the hell is it?
Two copies are being given away HERE -- Why don't you enter and (possibly) find out for yourself? XD

The gamercard included the phrase, I shit you not "Sensual birdfeeding" LOL!

In case anyone was wondering - the first half of my previous post was me trying to be funny and NOT an admission of animal... er... "husbandry"? Not sure if that means what I think it does ;)

Not unless you are SERIOUSLY messed up does it mean that. -laughing hard-

Love your description of her response - that was pretty much my go to as well. Possibly the best parent ever for getting it for her! I'm sure it's pretty tame and P... (trying and failing to come up with a bird related PG pun - oh well!).

I've not played it, but a friend of mine linked me to a forum-based let's play of it (not sure if this is the full thing), and honestly it's one of those games where it's so bizzare it warps right back around to being hilarious again (mileage may vary though).

The basic premise is some kind of war and humans reverted to hunter-gather societies, but at the same time birds became as intelligent as us. You play a human who got a scholarship to this bird-only academy and must navigate the school environment while also finding romance. (Yes, you need to find romance otherwise you die. I'm not exaggerating.)
