I just had a terrible video game moment :(

I love every aspect of a game that I had been looking forward to for a long time. Seriously - all of the mechanics, on paper, just clicked with me.

The downside - in practise, actually playing the game - felt cheap, frustrating and unfun :( I'm seriously bummed. Because even playing the game, I LOVED what I was doing and could do - but the results and frustration that ensued just weren't worth it. And it sucks! But I have to put it aside - even as I type this I don't want to.

I just did a pissed off writeup here on the forums where I compared it to an abusive relationship with someone who was amazing in bed.

We don't really watch much / any TV, so I've got nothing to add to that. Pretty much the only thing I watch with any regularity is Hockey Night in Canada, and I'm pretty hit and miss on that - depends who's playing.

I think I truly am done with this sale. I can't see anything else that I'm going to buy. If I wasn't so broke, there are a few things I would buy, but I just know I might never get around to playing them, so I'm being frugal and just not buying.

I can target subsystems, I can focus on dropping shields, I can outfit individual ships for stripping weapons or shattering the hull of enemies. I can configure my Captain to perform as I want (tactically savvy or an engineering wiz) and my crew can level up and perform as their experience dictates.

I can do everthing but actually have fun doing the things that I love doing and it makes me cry :(

(There are a few UI issues that make it less pleasing but I feel like most of the things giving me fits are mission design - and this is in the early game, never mind once the mid-game difficulty ramp up occurs - by then I think I'd be playing the game mouse in one hand, loaded weapon pointed at the temple in the shaking other).

But it's still waiting. And yes, if it's driving you insane, it'd be driving you wall-climbing, hair-ripping, monitor-punching crazy by the midpoint.
Always sucks when you look forward to something and it has just enough positives to make its ultimate failure even more painful. You want to embrace it in between wanting to smash its head in.

Ixamyakxim: Yes yes and yes! I'm at the point where I want to delete it from my computer almost as much as I want to fire it up again "one more time." I know that it'll be far more aggravating than it's worth but there's just enough there to make it painful NOT to go back to it.

Ixamyakxim: LOL I've had my own pigeon love moment (thank you trentonlf, my life is complete now that I've been able to use that phrase). At least in that PLM you KNOW the game sucks and you want nothing to do with it. Right now I feel mid-pigeon love, and part of me is liking it as much as I know I should be dragged out in the street.
