Are there any mental strategies you can use, like visualization or anything like that? Something to show it that it can't have its way when it wants and you've got some control. Aside from the bad feelings the situation is giving you, I imagine the feeling that you have no choice only makes it worse.

I've never been able to do visualization techniques effectively. I had a lot of practice with my therapist, but it just didn't work out for me. I really suck at trying to control my brain. I'm its bitch.

I haven't tried it in a while. I don't have a friend within 200 miles. But even when they were close by - Yes, I would get panic attacks when I would go for a stroll with my best friend.

I hear ya. It's been a rough season for my OCD too. For some reason, right around the start of Autumn, I started waking up every night with the anxiety set to high. I'm not sure what has brought on this change, except perhaps the usual metabolic changes that come with the body switching seasonal gears. But it is most unwelcome.

My medication actually has anti-depressive effects as well, and is often prescribed primarily for that. But I still get "black moods" too. All I can say is that for the time being you should engage in whatever comforting and anxiety-abating behaviours you have. Walking outside is great, because it gets you out of your four walls, which for the OCD often become analogous to one's head. Not to mention exercise and external stimuli have potent anti-depressive effects.

Maybe you could have a try at changing that, little by little. It doesn't have to be anything drastic to start with. Therapists have ways of doing things which aren't always the right thing for you. Maybe try to create your own way of pushing the threats back - step by step work out a kind of personal mind 'wall' that can help push the threats away. Imagine its Stronghold and you have to build some defenses, only you're a master defense builder and those mean little enemies are just not going to get through.
