ddickinson: Just a quick bump to the lovely Mrs Claus' awesome Secret Santa event. If you haven't already takes part, then why not! If you don't want to take part, then you have to find three more people who do, or else! :-)
I'm in, I've already sent my gifts :D and you ??

Four, actually.

It seems like we share sensibilities on this topic. I, too, prefer physical media when it comes to consoles games, books, music and movies. However, much like yourself, I get most of my PC games in digital format. These days, I do so exclusively through GOG in order to avoid the silly hoops that publishers oftentimes make you jump through with their various DRM policies.

P.S. - Welcome to the forum!

Grargar: Four, actually.
I didn't mean 3 to make it up to 90, I meant that as punishment you have to find 3 extra Santas to take part, regardless of the current total. Besides, I think Momo will be happy to reach 100. :-)

katya_stevens: Plus, I'd hate to see how much space 300+ games would take up...
I'm not sure but if I go back to my old big box Amiga games that are all in the loft I'm fairly certain there are more than 300 of them! :S

My PC game buying dates all the way back to 1997 and I still have some of the original big boxes I bought back then... Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital, Wing Commander IV... Ah, memories!

All those boxes are either in my garage or my loft and they're such an enormous waste of space. With GoG's sales I can basically digitise them for a small amount of money and then either sell off the originals to people more interested with more space or just bin them.

That said, I haven't bought a boxed game in some considerable time and the last few I did were Steam-only. Not sure why I even keep those but I find binning them is quite tough - even though they're almost completely useless! :-)

I will be sending mine once the sale has ended. I set myself a limit (to stop the urge to gift the whole wishlist)) and I want to try to get as much as I can for the set amount. I just wish some new games would show up so I can get them for my Secret Santa.

Did you see my question to you earlier or did the forum mess up the notification?
Good afternoon to you as well. =) Just saw it, and to answer your question - why not? ;) -laughs-

OK, but it seems we won't reach that number, as tomorrow is the deadline for santa subscriptions.

I know, but it's worth a shot. It would be nice to at least get to 90.
Aw crap, I've waited for what feels like forever for Blackguards to rotate back as a flashsale and then when I go offline for a few hours, I miss it by a smidgen. =(

I was just curious what your reasoning was really. :)

Um....it seemed like a good idea at the time? =)

Additional - Screw it. The numbers mesh, so I might as well make my last move and clear three series in one shot.

And....done. King's Quest series complete, no more having to look at Prince of Persia on my wishlist, and another Escape Goat to enjoy/hate. Not bad. -laughs-

CelestialBunny: Grabbed the PoP bundle (about frikkin time GOG did this one) finally clearing the last main series I was waiting to get on here.

Don't need Crimzon Clover, Agarest or the new Kings Bounty yet....lets see if the winter sale throws some variety into the works and alters everything
Collection syndrome, so compelling and so rewarding when one is completed.

adaliabooks: As far as I remember everything after Sands of Time weren't received too brilliantly...
Yes Warrior within seems to be the most universally panned one. Reviews for The Two Thrones were milder, some even positive but still unconvinced. And the remake seems to have rekindled some enthusiasm among old time fans, but never to the point that sands of time managed to achieve.

How good is the remake by itself however, without looking back at the past games and odious comparisons?

djmiketjg: Which brings me onto a question... has anyone else decided to go all-digital with their PC gaming?
I am fully digital since years.
Boxes require too much space and become dusty, few of them contain interesting additional content (except for some expensive editions), backups are a pain, optical media should be obsolete by now, many retail games still require DRM and Steam. So.. enough!

However, I must say that I miss a bit that game "pre-taste" old feeling, obtained by opening its mysterious box and by reading a good and "smelling-new" detailed manual :\

(Atlas seems to have eaten my last version of this, so trying again.)

I started back in 1998 myself, with Dungeon Keeper being one of the games I started with. A friend of mine loved Theme Hospital, but I never quite got around to buying it until I saw it here on GOG and went "oh, yeah!". I haven't used GOG to digitse my collection like others have -- for one thing, I only have physical versions of three games that I also have digital versions of. Dungeon Keeper (the disc no longer works) and a combined special edition of The Longest Journey + Dreamfall. Everything else on my shelf? Some were recommendations (aka a different friend going "you should buy and play Baldur's Gate! You should buy and play NWN!") but the majority I bought through seeing them on sales, reading up a bit, and going "those sound like interesting games".

To be honest, while I know the appeal of boxed games, I don't quite 'get' it when they end up just having a slip of paper with a game code, or a disc with a client installer and a text file with a game code. An actual game disc, sure, I can understand getting that. Getting something that's a card sleeve and a piece of paper?
