I have Battleworld Kronos already and have been thinking of trying it out. Is Battle Isle a good idea to play first?

You can play in any order, but it's nice to play the original Battle Isle and get a feel for the brilliant-for-its-time nature of it before graduating to the newer mechanics of Kronos. Both will give you an enjoyable challenge.
