The weird thing is, if there was a character in a different game who was trying to date birds, it could work, just by sheer absurdity alone. But having that as a protagonist is too unappealing for me. That, and I don't do dating sims at all.

I like the Baldur's Gate method of relationships so much more. You go along completing quests, out of the blue Jaheira starts acting interested, and after the player says out loud, "Oh hell no, I am not going to be her post-murder trauma rebound.", you can get back to the fun things. =)

Although, in a way, you might be able to call Long Live The Queen a dating sim, if you imagine the princess or whoever trying desperately to get herself killed so she can hit on the grim reaper.
