Could be a blessing in disguise - no modem, no forty minute timer. And then you could drink the whiskey yourself! (you'd have to use the gin or rum to take out the modem, of course).

I agree, but there was a time I recall, long, long ago, when I existed without a keyboard and eyestrain. It would be nice to simplify from time to time.

Hmm. Eyestrain's always been a given for me. And I've always liked typing. But yes, simplification is a good thing when you can manage to do it.
