A few people have pondered the same in the last day or so, so I just did some sleuthing... It appears the regular price on GOG is $5.99 and the game has never been on sale here at least since December 2012 from my records as well as on some websites that keep track of such information. The regular price on Steam and some other shops is $4.99 although I didn't look at the bonus features or other stuff to see if GOG offers more stuff for the slightly higher price, nor did I check to see if the other stores offer the game DRM-free or not.
http://isthereanydeal.com/#/search:arx%20fatalis;/scroll:%23gamelist appears to show the game as having never been on sale anywhere at least according to their records but I don't know how far back their records go either. The "Enhanced Steam" plugin for Firefox and Chrome, shows that the game has been on sale before:
"Lowest Price: $3.99 at GameFly PC after coupon code JUN20OFF (Info)
Historical Low: $1.99 at Steam on Tue Jul 17 2012 (Info)"
So it would appear that the game publisher just does not allow the game to go on sale either at all, or very often at least insofar as these two price trackers have been able to track.
If you want to get it for a lower price though you might consider posting ads in the GOG Classifieds forums or other similar sites/forums online such as steamtrades.com and you might find someone who owns a key for the game who is willing to trade you for some games you have that you'd like to part with in a mutually beneficial swap. Sometimes that can beat any sale prices out there. Also, search the forums for giveaways that might include a copy of the game up for grabs.
Hope this helps!
Update: http://isthereanydeal.com/#/page:game/price?plain=arxfatalis
shows that the game was on sale on GOG.com 533 days ago for 50% off ($2.99).

ooh.. I somehow missed that Original war thing. I've not really looked closely at it before. Hell its not even in my wishlist, which I do not use as a wishlist, but as a "games I do not own" list since GOG removed the "Hide owned games" toggle from the store.
as usual, now I know its being removed I had a closer look, and it doesnt seem that bad? Opinions? It's only $6 so even if it isn't included in the current sale it is still a decent price if it is a good game.

Maybe Arkane is one of the last few developers/publishers who doesn't overprice their games, just to give insane discounts three or four times a year? I think 5.99 (or 4.99) is perfectly reasonable for this game. It's an affordable amount that still allows the owner and the shops to earn some money.

Not sure what you mean by GOG removing "hide owned games", but if you go on the bookshelf or list views of your game collection and click on a game, there is a "hide game" option present with which you can hide that particular game, and it can be undone as well if desired. I just doublechecked my shelf to confirm the option is still present.as usual, now I know its being removed I had a closer look, and it doesnt seem that bad? Opinions? It's a decent RTS. Very character driven. Very solid. Think the only reason it got bad reviews is the U.S. vs Soviets back in time training Apemen theme. But if you can look past that little absurdity, its a fine game.

Perhaps, but the other developers do it to stimulate sales and get bursts of purchases from both people who are waiting for such games to go on sale as well as people who will buy such a game whimsically because it is on sale (and may or may not ever actually play it or even download it) and they make a killing doing so. Games that set a specific price and never go on sale will end up never getting bought by people specifically waiting for it to go on sale or people who might buy it whimsically if it were on sale but otherwise might have no interest because they can spend their money on one of 10000 other games that are on sale in the rotation of things. For example, I looked at the game and it looks like something I'd consider checking out, but I've got tonnes of that genre of game so I'd never buy it for $5+, but if it were say... 75% off I'd probably buy it in a Flash sale tomorrow as $1.49 is pocket lint. 10000 people who think/act similarly to me in a year, translates to $14900 revenue in a year, or at $2.49 == $24900. Digital downloads don't have warehouse overhead or other non-negligible overhead really, so such companies just lose out on that revenue which gets spent on other games instead. But of course those companies have that choice, it's just another business model in the end and it might suit them just fine presumably. :)Impaler26

*snip*
The Steam version of Arx Fatalis has one huge advantage over the GOG version - it's available in 6 languages while the GOG version is only available in english: *snip*

If the GOG version also had german language i'd buy it at full price without thinking twice.

I saw Bloodrayne coming up at somewhere around 4.30am here, (don't ask! lol) but managed to fall asleep before it became active and missed it! :-) At least with the games being up for a couple of hours in the flash sale, even if it appears again tonight whilst I'm on stage, I know I can grab it in the break. (As long as it's not between 11.30pm and 2am-ish!)
