txnca: Here is where you can find the last time a game was posted in flash sales and might be able to guess when it will come up again.
avatar
Ixamyakxim: How do you get an idea of when they'll be up next? (sorry I didn't click - I have a phobia when it comes to link clicking ;) )

*edit Is there some sort of apparent pattern?
That link is safe. It's just Pidgeot's tracking script readout.

As for a pattern, there really doesn't seem to be one. Some games come up more often than others, so there may be some sort of hierarchy, but no one has really figured it out.

The few games I looked at seem to repeat in a pattern, usually every other day two or three times, then every day for two or three days, then the pattern repeats.
Has Police Quest been on a flash sale yet? I keep checking and I'm either missing it, or it isn't one of the games they're going to feature.

It is not one of the games being featured. For the complete list, including how many times they've shown up, check out this handy spreadsheet.

LOL Sinistar when I saw that I almost lost it - THOSE WERE JUST UP!!! Oh, wait no it's just a bit delayed those are the ones at the two hour mark *phew!*

IAmSinistar: So we're going into the weekend and the conclusion of this long hot Summer Sale. Is anyone still managing to hold off on some wanted games until the last day, in order to see if GOG does some kind of super-blowout at the end?
Nope. After getting the Two Worlds bundle today, I got evertyhing I really wanted.

Well, yesterday I put Project Eden on my cart and it's being considered but I'm not expecting it to have a bigger discount.

I discovered yesterday that with this sale, my GOG catalog goes over $1000 (going for the listed non-discount prices) and I paid around 1/4 of that, so I'm very thanful to GOG already. If they do anything extra on the last day or not, I'm good.

It's not so much holding off, as I keep missing the flash sales. Of course, the games I already bought keep showing up, but not the ones I want. I hope they make an appearance again before the sale ends. But if there is a super blow out, so much the better (not for my wallet, regrettably).
Am I the only one, when I check the front page after a long absence, scrolling through the flash sales looking for Banished?

Anyhow, spreadsheet is up to date again.

Knock-Knock is now the biggest loser with only 4 appearances and hasn't been seen since Sunday...

Oh, well that's embarrassing - I could have sworn it's only been a few days that I've been obsessively checking GoG... last Sunday??? *pushes piles of dishes around immediate area, searches for spare razor to shave increasingly scraggly stubble, looks down realizing isn't wearing pants, now knows why people are looking crosseyed at me*

Tarnicus: completing formal study on someone else's timetable doesn't work for me.
Have you looked into MOOCs? They may give you a nice solution in-between formal education and self-taught. If you like sales and free giveaways (is there anyone in this thread who doesn't? ;) at this time most MOOCs are free (or low cost)

Many offer a Statement of Accomplishment on successful completion, which can be a nice complement to your current degree.

http://class-central.com is a good place to get started

vulchor: *snip*

If you ever moved Stateside I could guarantee you a $25+/hour spot with Microsoft with great advancement potential, but I could also guarantee that it would destroy the soul of someone like you. ;)
I like to be kissed before I'm f$%ked and would definitely choose someone prettier than Microsoft to f$%k me :P

Tarnicus: Well said and that is the philosophy I live by also.

Minerva14: Thank you very much for your posting! My english isn't good enough to tell you, what I wanna say at this moment, but I am impressed - not even by the cats ;) You're an interesting person and your art of living is adorable. I just wish you could have shared more time with your father.

Family is so important and good friends too - can't buy these "things", and they are everything that counts for me (and our beloved cats my husband and I have)...
:)

I'm back in contact with my father after a 20 year absence. It is strange, uncomfortable at time but fills a void that has been there for many years.

Tarnicus: I pop in to say hi and see that I have entered mid-battle and left my sword and shield in my locker.

Perhaps the pen may be mightier than the sword in this case, especially when used as a weapon aimed at the throat or other vital spot :P

j0ekerr: Nothing beats an AK-47.

Well perhaps a M1 Abrams.
I'd take a knife over a sword any day, and a pen is much deadlier than people realise. We are very limited in Australia as to what we can carry to defend ourselves(which I'm thankful for but wish our police didn't carry guns). I've done a little training with a couple of styles with a sword and would still prefer something that caters to speed rather than reach, as speed closes the distance, especially vs someone untrained.

A bow beats an AK-47 depending on the context. I've always thought it strange in survival situations where a series of tools are offered how people preference guns over bows. Guns alert everyone within a 5km+ radius that you are there the moment you shoot. Not a good idea in a post-apocalyptic scenario with roving bands of thieves, rapists and murderers. Stealth is the key. That is how the last pockets of indigenous populations around the world survived colonisation the longest. Guns didn't defeat them, stealing hunting grounds and starvation did in most cases. And then there's maintenance and ammunition. Nope I'd choose my compound bow any day over a gun :)

An M1 Abrams is easily defeated by running out of fuel :P
