Anyone have any ideas what the daily deal for the 29th and 30th are?
It's pretty much just the same games over and over again for the past few days. They plan to shake it up with new titles that havent been listed yet?

All of them probably! The 29th will be the last day because it ends on the 30th, so I assume they will repeat all/most of the bundles then.

We don't know, it's just wild mass guessing and speculation at this point.
Speculation can be fun, that's how the indoctrination theory came about. With the help of strong whiskey.

...and experience. IIRC all of the huge sales on GOG ended like that.

Exactly, the wiser gamers here said that would happen in the 18 when they started guessing bundles and there none for that day. And they were correct. Not that I'm expecting anything that day but I believe that's what will happen.

synfresh: Everything is inevitable in some way, shape or form, but nothing is guaranteed except for death and taxes. This really is the point that many Steam users try to get across. It's not that Steam users are stupid or ignorant. They understand what Steam is and represents. When you buy from Steam, you are in many way buying conveinence and there is a huge value in that to the consumer (see itunes as a prime example of this).
I've not said otherwise. What I have said is that if people are content with this scenario, then that's fine for them. It isn't for me, because I've lived through many of these crashes. As long as you are okay when it happens, and aren't one of those people deluded into thinking "it won't happen THIS time", then you should be okay.

Every crash is preceded by people saying "it hasn't happened yet, it's not happening today, and it won't happen tomorrow". And they're right, until one day they're not. Again, if the consequences of that crash don't matter to you, or the benefits you currently enjoy from the system outweigh that end, then you don't need to worry about it. It just holds no appeal for me, even if you were to factor out other things such games that require a client or an always-on internet connection.

j0ekerr: How many of us patched starcraft to stop it asking to put the bloody CD in the drive?
hehe, actually you didn't need to patch the .exe. all you needed to do was copy the install.exe into the directory you installed the game and change where the cd rom was looking at. If I'm remembering that correctly. :)

Those NoCD tricks were a godsend back in the day. In some cases you could also use MagicDisc or a similar ISO mounter to get around the problem.

Yep, those were easy ones. There are Daemon Tools And Alchocol 120% for "die hard" cases

Oh god, I remember those too. They were great, but damned tricky at times. GOG has really spoiled me for "install and enjoy" convenience now. :)

j0ekerr: Speaking of the ephemeral nature of some forms of software, there is nothing as doomed as console games.

I should know, a year or two from now, when my 360 breaks down for good, all my games will be just worthless plastic.

And that's even more terrible than stealing 40 cakes.
Built-in obsolescence of modern hardware? ;-) A friend of mine has the full set of pre-Wii Nintendo systems (his NES was originally mine, but it found a better home at his place years ago) and they're all still in working condition.

And it's great what they do for us! I will remember god damned Starforce until the last days of my life.. There was the base of games profiles on Daemon Tools forum which options you need to set to get a working copy from your disc and I think It still is

SecuROM (specifically the one in BioShock) is what turned me off PC gaming all those years ago. It wasn't until I found GOG that I came back.

Amazing isn't it that companies still think DRM is a good idea, despite that it can actually cause customers to give up the entire hobby?

its not about the customer its about making the company heads feel "safe" from pirates and protecting the bottom line. Even when its not pirates look at their anti used game methods over the last few years. Just be glad sony decided not to to fallow microsoft in that path or the future would be vary bleak indeed.
