I've heard many good things about Beyond Good & Evil, but I fear I might be more like a compulsive shopper than a judicious one at this point, I have bought about 10 games in the last few days. Today alone I have already bought two games before lunchtime.

And I'm still waiting for the broken sword and deponia bundles and the telltale back to the future flash sale to repeat itself.

Still, how good is Beyond Good & Evil?

It's easy to get carried away but there is no need to. This sale will end on the 30th but it will only be another 3-4 months or so until the next major sale event, undoubtedly there will continue to be multiple promos each week as well.

You're going to play it and after you finish it, you're going to wait for an impossible sequel with an ache in your heart, is all I'm going to say (Damn Ubisoft and its AC sales strategy)
Ah thanks for these lists guys, I just came back from holidays, so it was big help to check the flash deals you recorded and seeing that most of them appear several times. Thanks :-)
Since the other summer thread is lame and this appears to be where all the cool kids hang, I shall ask here as well!
Never had a chance to play any of the wing commander series and I'm a little hesitant to purchase them. Are they newcomer friendly/enjoyable or more so for veterans that have previously played before, for a trip down nostalgia road?

I thoroughly enjoyed the Wing Commander series. However, never did play the Academy and Armada titles. If you're into a dog fighting combat, but in space, then Wing Commander is for you. If you're into space travel, bartering commodities, etc, then Privateer offers that. At 80% off it's a fantastic deal.
I'm chomping at the bit to get "X-Wing Saga bundle". I'd settle for Wing Commander Saga as they're great games in the same league also ... except I already grabbed them all in the Winter sale ;oP Hopefully Disney is reading this and wants to tap into my bank account later this year... :)

Thank you mr. Cheese Biscuit sir! :) I may just wait until the final day of the sale to see what gog throws us, closer to my payday anyways :P another GoGer mentioned a joystick making it far for enjoyable, may have to look into getting one :)

Wing Commander 3, 4 and 5 are very newcomer friendly. 1, 2, Academy and Armada are newcomer friendly as well, but... they haven't aged very well :/ Nostalgia only. Privateer isn't exactly newcomer friendly. You buy a better ship? Enemies get stronger. You buy a better weapon? Enemies get stronger. You buy better armor for your ship? Enemies get stronger. That's Privateer...

Privateer 2? Not Wing Commander (it's Privateer 2, not Wing Commander Privateer 2), but a very good game as well. Feels a bit like Fear 'n Loathing in Las Vegas though... Cutscenes are very trippy. But the flying is very good and should be manageable for newcomers.

Yes, a game pad would make the experience more user friendly ;-)

Trust me, you can't go wrong with this flight hardware for new or old flight games:
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/x52pro.html
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/pedals.html

All the buttons/switches/axes/dials/gizmos can either be configured in-game where games support the various bells and whistles, or outside of the game using the Saitek provided ultra-programmable software which can do keyboard/joystick/mouse emulation in amazing ways to retrofit the hardware's functions to output whatever a game actually understands as input. It's fantastic! You can get a lot of functions to work with ancient DOS games etc. this way which otherwise there'd be no way to make it work. Makes playing old games like these a totally awesome modern experience hardware-wise.

And for flight sim enthusiasts (and racing and FPS enthusiasts as well), there is another device that is awesome to have too but it only works with a much more limited range of games - the NaturalPoint TrackIR head tracker:

http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/products/trackir5/

TrackIR does *NOT* work with Wing Commander or older games and requires direct game support (there is a list of supported titles on their website), but I mention it here only because it is mega awesome and if someone is considering buying flight hardware, TrackIR is a must-have experience if you own or plan on owning any of the supported games. It also works with ArmA/ArmA2 which is super awesome. If anyone ends up wanting to get one after checking it out, I highly recommend getting it *with* the "TrackIR Pro Clip" as that greatly enhances precision and results. I own the TrackIR 4 Pro and it is fantastic, the 5 is vastly improved from that also.

Buying all this crap will automatically bump your geek level up 2 levels for sure.
It appears that GOG are now trying to feed my addiction by telling me I can complete the Risen bundle for $5.99! I think I need to stop looking at the home page before l run out of wages!

I now have a bookmark that leads me right to the forum so I don't get tempted.

That... is pure genius. O.O Maybe with that there will be some money in my wallet at the end of this sale.

-immediately makes a bookmark that leads directly to forums-

Thank you for that idea! :D

Zeyes: Definitely not purely random, the distribution would look a lot different if it was, much less bunched at 4/5/6 appearances.

RWarehall: But relatively consistent with random but guaranteed X number of times. Changes the equation.
Maybe, but not in the way you outlined before, with games set to receive an "automatic catchup" at the end. I think it's much more likely it's simply a case of games getting a higher probability of being picked next if they haven't come around for a longer time.
