Sweet! I finally purchased MEMORIA!! :D

I was asleep. Had a bit of a nasty dream involving a Chinese girl and a broken toe that woke me up. decided to check the sale and Memoria was up! Quickly bought it with extreme boughtiness. Had a drink and went back to bed.

Its like that Chinese girl broke my toe just so I could buy the game or something! awesome. totally worth it!

[edit] ohnoes! page toppdesu!

FudoMyo: Why doesn’t the Gothic bundle include 1? Would have been an insta-buy.
Because the publisher of Gothic 2+3 is different than the publisher of Gothic 1.

Cyberevil: Hmmm I'm not sure there is anything left I feel I must buy at this point... There's a few I'm curious about, like Tropico 3, but I really hate it when the trailer has no actual game play in it. It tends to make me real suspicious.
avatar
skeletonbow: That drives me nuts too, watching a game trailer and all it is is cut scenes/storyline stuff with no actual gameplay, or even just the game's wallpaper with credits and text to read, and artwork scrolling by with sound effects, possibly intermixed with some hoaky narration trying to hype it up but... zero actual gameplay. Most of the trailers are 30% splashcreen advertising of the game publisher, developer, AMD/Intel, AMD/nVidia, physics engine, other technologies linked into the game binary, and after a minute and a half of that crap then you get a game trailer that lasts for 30 seconds that doesn't show you the actual game. GRRRR :) I go to youtube and type the game name and add "gameplay" on the end and watch fan made videos that show nothing BUT the game. :)
Thats pretty much the only downside of the way gog advertises games -- most of the trailers are pretty much either the games intro or something which doesnt really show the gameplay.Pretty annoying. The alternative i guess is either link someone else's lets play videos or make their own --- which surprises me they dont since they seem to generally play through chunks of games before release etc.....

FudoMyo: Master of Magic
Total Biscuit made me do it. I’ll give it a go, it’s supposed to be a classic.
master of magic is /awesome./ they used early magic: the gathering as a boilerplate for some of the spell ideas, and there's just a bunch of fun ways to play [all life? all death?] - it's easy to lose an evening or so just firing it up and tinkering.

enjoy :)

this is why, every time i thought i've been curious about something, i've gone to youtube and found a let's play video of it and just watched the frist couple of minutes.

i /loved/ the idea of costume quest a whole lot - and people are probably going to crucify me for this - but the minute i saw that the camera was fixed, it went from "impulse buy" to "hm. might consider, someday."

LynetteC: Yes, I have Sacred 2 on CD, but no expansion although I'm always on the lookout for it.

Thanks skeletonbow. I'll check that link when I'm back on my laptop.

Can anyone tell me if there's anything in the Ultima bundle that wasn't included in the Ultims Collection all those years qho? :-)

I dug up this link to an older Ultima promo. If that's what you're talking about, it looks like the exact same bundle to me, except at a deeper discount this time.

Any idea if the Ultima series would still be fun for someone who never played it and thus doesn't really have any nostalgia for that era of RPGs? I know a lot of people say to skip at least the first three, but I like to try to play things in order and don't really mind incredibly dated graphics and controls as long as the gameplay is decent (although obviously the mechanics aren't as going to be as refined as later games).

Different rights owner than the other games.

If you're talking about the CD-Rom Ultima Collection, the GOG package includes the Worlds of Ultima games as well as Ultima Underworld 1+2 and Ultima 9 which the CD-Rom collection lacked.

Thanks, but it was this CD collection that I was asking about as l already own it. (and have done since it's release) .

As far as the Collection goes, I think I'm too biased to give you an opinion as I love the series. Perhaps someone else will be able to be more objective than me! :-)
Speaking of the CD collection, I wonder if that chicken joke made it into the gog extras...

I'm not an ultra-Ultima fan so maybe can answer this. I remember playing, loving, and being frustrated by II back when it came out. Tried III briefly but don't remember it. A little nostalgia combined with "what did they do with the rest of the series" made me buy VII recently, which is maybe my advice. It's considered the best, I think, and if you play it and like it you can get the rest of the bundle later on. The first couple are really dated by now, though I remember how excited I was in II when I finally got the spaceship going...

Thanks for sharing your experience! I decided that $7.14 is more than a good deal even if I'm just able to satisfy my curiosity, especially considering the price that one paid for of any single one of the games when they were new. :) But in all honesty, Ultima VII does look like it has a very rich and open world, even compared to modern RPGs.

Come to think of it, though, I did play and beat pedit5 a few years ago using an online PLATO mainframe emulator service, so if that's not proof that I can put up with severely outdated games for the historical experience, I'm not sure what is. :)

given your last paragraph, i'd say, "spring for it," then.

just be very aware that some of the mechanics in some of those games are...clunky and tedious and dumb. but we put up with them back then, because we didn't know any better and game design hadn't come very far.

Cool, enjoy... I almost got the bundle yesterday for the aforementioned Ultima II nostalgia but have too much on my play plate already... have fun!
