Hey now! I'm only 52, still young and prefer to stay that way! One of the best ways to stay young is to not grow up! That doesn't mean not be responsible, which everyone seems to think of as being "grown up". One has nothing to do with the other. Far as I am concerned, being "grown up" is another way of saying OLD! Grown ups don't play games. Grown ups don't watch cartoons or animated movies (cartoon movies!). Grown ups don't listen to LOUD music! Screw that! Crank it UP!!!

[...]!
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Hey now! That was a genuine complement! ;-)
Every time I read a post of yours about games you got, games you're eyeing to get, etc. I can't help but imagine an excited kid in a toy store running up and down the aisle in an attempt to suck everything in. And that's a good picture!
I find your enthusiasm very enjoyable and refreshing. I'm willing to bet that the sight of you playing the games is equally enjoyable.:-)

And I'm with you - play games, watch cartoons and animations, and don't forget to dance to that loud music you enjoy!
Hmmm, I'm not sure if watching me cuss would be that enjoyable! lol But then again, maybe it would be! You would probably get bored watching me play! I am the type that goes through every single room, open every single door, check every single cave/hole in the wall, follow every single quest of each and every game I play. My son plays and just finishes the games in about 1/4 of the time it takes me because he only follows the main story and only as far as it helps him finish the game. It drives me crazy! We used to play together, but I got to the point that I was way behind him as he would run through the game. Example, We both got Diablo 3 and he had finished the game all the way through hell level or whatever the highest level is for Diablo 3 and I had just finished the first go through on normal! lol Not that I can't play at those levels because I prefer to play at those levels, just I don't rush through them. Makes it so much more enjoyable.

Niggles: anyone else while looking through the looping flash sales start to look at games u wouldn't normally buy, and get tempted to buy buy?

anyone got list of non flash deal games that might be worth a buy at their current sale prices?
avatar
skeletonbow: Absolutely, that's why they drop the prices so low too in the industry, it picks up shitloads of whimsical "holy shit, I can't pass this up" sales of games many people would probably never buy ever, and in many cases they buy at the discount price but never actually play, so it's all positive cashflow city making money out of thin air more or less. I saw statistics somewhere for Steam that said something like 75% or more of all games redeemed on Steam never ever get installed. That is consistent with my Steam catalogue so far, and probably my GOGalogue too. :)
I think I only have one Steam game that isn't installed. Now GOG is a different matter so far. I've been too busy buying to play for a bit now although lately I've been kicking butt in Torchlight. I also finished all of the Myst series again just for the fun of it. I had to go find my Myst 3 though since no one is selling it right now DRM free. Took me awhile since it is in my computer room with all of my other games and software and equipment. It looks like a disaster area! lol

trentonlf: I am a representative of the "HOLY SHIT" mentality when it comes to these sales lol
In the sale so far I bought:
DRACULA TRILOGY (wishlisted, needed to complete entire series)
RACE DRIVER: GRID (whimsical from sale + enthusiasm for Logitech G27 racing wheel I bought last week)
DRIVER®: PARALLEL LINES (whimsical from sale + enthusiasm for Logitech G27 racing wheel I bought last week)
FAHRENHEIT (INDIGO PROPHECY) (whimsical)
SCRATCHES DIRECTOR'S CUT (whimsical)
7TH GUEST, THE (wishlisted, completes series)
BLOODRAYNE 2 (wishlisted, completes series)
MONTAGUE'S MOUNT (whimsical)
SHERLOCK HOLMES: SECRET OF THE SILVER EARRING (whimsical but I like the other Sherlock game I have and might like to collect them all some day)
EADOR: GENESIS (super whimsical)
ANOTHER WORLD: 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION (wishlist - long time classic I've waited for a deep promo for)
WIZARDRY 8 (wishlist but not really super important at the moment so fairly whimsical)
RUNE CLASSIC (Already own Steam version but opted to get GOG one also whimsically)

There were at least 5 other games in the rotation which I have added to my cart and let expire telling myself "I have way too many games of that type in my backlog already and it will come on sale multiple times again for the same or cheaper price probably before I ever actually play it".

There's also a bit of little-kid-at-holiday-season aspect to it all though that makes it fun too. :)

Niggles: that pretty high.I tend to download all my Gog game installers, install try and keep them on PC. steam?. I've stopped using any steam keys a fair while back....even any gifts I have.... I guess I'm one of those impulse buyers these sales favour....
I'd need to dedicate a couple terabyte drive just to storing the downloaded plus installed copies of all of the games, which total in right now at 274 games on GOG and about 300 on Steam, not to mention DRM-free downloads from various other sites, and games from GMG's Capsule and others. Really don't need or want my Start menu having that much crap on it all at once. :) I do download all the GOG games locally though for backup purposes. Altogether I have approximately 110 games installed through various services on the machine right now which is 100 more than I should have installed LOL.

I have a lot of wishlisted games, and several have come up, like the Journeyman Project that is up now. I have it along with all of the series wishlisted, but am holding out right now. I am planning on buying some of the bundles so am holding back for a while on the wishlist unless it is in a bundle! I tired to count how many were on my wishlist one day and lost count a few times because there are so many!

The only consolation is if I do that, most games in GOG catalog that will interest me will sit in my library, I probably need not buy more games for the rest of the year

HypersomniacLive: Keep telling this to yourself... until the next exciting promo event. ;-P
Well before this sales I have 370+ games, Now I have 470+ and may hit the 500-600 barrier after this promo is done.

Given that gog thve 750+ games in it's catalog. It stands to reason that nothing more will interest me after this sales.

Hear that bank account / card / wallet? Don't run, it will only hurt for this promo and no more. At least not anymore for a long while. Come back!

That is the only way to play! I finished Diablo 3 with a Barbarian and am now in the process of doing it with a Monk, a Sorceress, and a Crusader since I got the new expansion. What is good about that is I have been able to play them at the hardest level which by passes 3 easier levels right from the start. Much more interesting and fun.

Install the Barefoot Essentials browser addon for GOG and let it count your games for you. Easy button.

Where "long while" == Fall Insomnia sale (or whatever promo) or Winter Mega Blowout? Or.... Black Friday?

You know and I know... c'mon, we all know... there's no escaping the GOG promo monsters!

As far as I can tell, the script doesn't count the wishlisted games.

I'll request the feature. It displays a count of wishlisted games on gogwiki after you synchronize your game list although I dunno if the plugin is responsible or the gogwiki site for that.

As Barefoot Monkey explained to me, he extended the wiki with some custom elements, so it's the script working together with the site.
