The biggest celebration of DRM-Free gaming this season is right now, right here on GOG.com! It's warm and nice outside, the summer draws ever closer, so let's make sure it's full of fantastic games. There's no one good way to spend your summer, but we know well that gaming can make every single one of them better. So, whether you plan to stay inside, hike into the wilderness, or take a boat into the calm sea, we'll make sure your laptop is filled with great DRM-Free games you can enjoy anytime, anywhere. To that end, we're holding our [url=http://www.gog.com]2014 DRM-Free Summer Sale!

Each day we'll present you with at least two special Bundle Deals with a selection of of great classics and indies available up to 90% off! As usual, you'll be able to buy just selected titles out of the bundle with a slightly lower discount, or complete your collection with just the ones you're missing, retaining the higher discount rate. Let's take a look at our offers for today, shall we?

Today, we seriously mix things up to bring you both lighthearted comedy as well as dark and morbid horror. The Legacy of Kain Saga is the Full House of gaming with its family themes and colorful presentation. Across four episodes ironically titled Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2, and Defiance the series explores the relation between Kain, a authoritative father with obvious god complex, and Raziel, his rebellious son with questionable fashion sense. The story also includes many of their relatives from extended family, that cannot help but to make a mess in their imaginary homeland called Nosgoth. Hilarity ensues! All this cheerful moments for only $5.96 (that's 75% off!). The other of our offers today, is bound to chill the blood in your veins with its terrifying setting alone. The Deponia Complete Trilogy takes place on a distant planet. A planet, that long ago must have been not so different from our own Earth. Yet now, it is a grim and dark place that suffered a tragic environmental disaster. The surface of the planet is now completely covered with waste. Toxic rain flushes the pollution deep into the ground, poisoning it and making the land barren. Way above, there's the remaining enclave of civilization, housing the remnant of the human race. Now imagine one of them, a defenseless girl, falls down to the toxic junkyard below. Even though she doesn't die instantly poisoned with every imaginable toxin, her future looks grim. The wasteland is filled with danger, and soon she'll find out that she is not alone among the towering piles of garbage. What strange mutated monsters could have survived in such conditions? And what do they eat? The horror! All the thrills for just $11.97 (that's 80% off!). There you have it, a mix of laughter and cries of despair to fill your weekend with gripping gaming. Or did we overdo the mixing?

On top of that, almost all of our catalog has been discounted by up to 50%. On top of that, our front page is overflowing with excellent Flash Sales on single games. You can grab them up to 90% as well, but don't take to long, as they come and go pretty fast! Why don't you head out to GOG.com front page, and see what's happening right NOW!
How is that Aarklash: Legacy game? How well does it run under Windows 7 64-bit? Can it run in a window?

revanbh: I wouldn't hold my breath for Europa Universalis or Crusader Kings titles. Especially since Paradox completely shut down non-Steam version of the latter and switched it to Steam. Former was always Steam-only to begin with. I have all of the above on Steam, except XCOM, but whenever I can buy something on GOG, I do that.
The interesting thing about Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II, at least on Linux, is that they are DRM free.

I would think the biggest hurdle for publishers putting games on GOG is the lack of DRM, and yet Paradox is already shipping this DRM free on steam.

IAmSinistar: I hope GOG throws in some stuff to mix it up. While this sale is great for people who are just now coming on, or only following it sporadically, it's the doldrums for us regular sailors.

undeadcow: ...they have teased some mysterious flash freebie, which I suspect is intended to mix tings up a tad. Although I agree, it's also nice to see transparency that GOG is up front about every deal they have coming... they're not really playing a time pressure game or making it hard to budget because you know the deals straight out and that there will be continued opportunities to get the discount. Maybe it's less "fun" but it strikes me as a much more practical way to score good bargains on games without over the top marketing tactics (which I think have become too common place in today's world).

Edit: Also, boo on any attempt to emulate Steam's sale model too closely.
I have to agree. Steam's sale model is quite bothersome for the most part. Not to mention the organization of the Steam website as of now. I vastly prefer what GOG.com is doing on it's sales in terms of value and organization.

It should run just fine in Windows 7 64-bits :) As for a windowed mode, I am not sure...
...:( i allways own at least one of the games that make up the special bundle...*sniff, sniff* :)

Neverfree: Never had a chance to play any of the wing commander series and I'm a little hesitant to purchase them. Are they newcomer friendly/enjoyable or more so for veterans that have previously played before, for a trip down nostalgia road?
I can only speak of Wing Commander 1 and 2, I played both of them only recently. The games are still enjoyable, they hit a nice sweet spot between "arcadey" action-combat and "realistic" simulation. The biggest problem is the aged technology: controls are somewhat stiff and the game's speed depends on the framerate. Since the game has no framerate-limiter on its own the DOSBox Cycle have to be set to the speed of CPUs at that time, meaning there will be slowdowns when there is too much going on on the screen. I also recommend getting a joystick (I have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, it's a lower-class joystick, but it's good enough); you can play using the keyboard or the mouse, but that's even more awkward.

There is an episode of Ancient DOS Games on the first Wing Commander (the second one has more refined controls)

What is the gameplay like? Are there a lot of campaigns? Is there a Skirmish mode?

But doesn't GOG apply the same amount of discount to the rest of the bundle? I mean if you have one of the games, the other game is still sold at the bundle discount rate which would be impossible if you wanted to pick up a single item out of the bundle? So you can still complete the bundle at bundle discount prices unless you have games on any other platform, say, Steam.. Am I wrong?

I am not sure if I was able to tell what I meant, sorry for broken English.

Thanks for replying man! I suppose I'll pass then, for the time being, as I don't have any sort of joystick. And when I can afford the whole bundle ;) it looks pretty enjoyable, even still. Reminds me of a grown up/adult star fox :)

You're correct. If you own one or more games on GOG in a daily bundle, you get the full discount if you buy the rest.

The gameplay is reminiscent of the old Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games ( real time party based tactics with pause and some puzzles).
There is one campaign ( no skirmish mode available) with a relatively decent story.
Be advised that the game can be a bit challenging and you'll learn to pause often even when dealing with "trash mobs".
If you like a challenging tactical game this one delivers in spades.

It's probably a good idea to keep this in mind

GOG.com... Do you hate me so much? I'm waiting for FTL to be on flashsale for several days :'(

I've got a few hours time to kill and volunteer to install and test the game for GOG.com just as a good samaratan (I'm like that!), just add the game to my account and I'll beta-test all the various graphics settings and resolution up to 2560x1600, windowed/non-windowed, various AA modes, etc. :oP Hey, it's the least I can do for all the good things GOG does for us gamers! <grin>

*runs*
Hey, which do you think it's better: Valdis Story or Dust?
