As of now I just bought 3 games (excluding M&B bundle). Feels strange AND good. :D

apehater: so you like action and sleep deprivation?
In the proper amounts, certainly. :) The Insomnia sales are the good kind of agony.

avatar
apehater: how about a career in the us marine corps as a special ops operator?
I'm afraid that would cut into my time as a hardcore justice vigilante of the night who never rests.

avatar
apehater: so which games did you buy because of sleep deprivation?
I'd have to sift through my titles and see if I remember which ones. But I can attest that during Insomnia sales I typically add at least five new shelves to my collection. So far in this sale I've added but one.

There's definitely psychology at work here. If some of the titles that I can grab right now at 50% (normal discount) showed up in Insomnia at the exact same discount, I'd be more likely to buy them, just because the nature of the sale encourages that kind of impulsive spending. I guess maybe this kind of sale works better for GOG though, as they can sell a theoretically unlimited number of those titles instead. Whether they actually do is another matter.

j0ekerr: What about FTL? I've heard that one of its main strengths is that it makes you want to say "Make it so" every time before you enter a command.
GET IT. NOW.

I mean, since nobody's buying that many games on this sale, help support GOG and buy yourself a really great game. you won't regret it.

unless you really dislike rouelikes/permadeath... FTL can be quite hard at first. I myself am not the greatest fan of permadeath, but FTL is great even with it.

Grargar: Flash-sales and bundle-wise, still nothing for me. I hope for a better weekend.
Do you have most of the games from the Flash sale already or are you waiting for a particular game to appear there?

niky45: GET IT. NOW.
Agreed. It's seriously good. And the devs made the Advanced version a free upgrade here. Plus you can switch the Advanced changes off on the menu screen, and play the original way too. That's how I'm playing for now, until I beat it that way.

So, is it even fun if you're not into strategy? The sci-fi and decision making aspects of the game appeal to me, but I'm not a strategy games player at all, so I'm a bit torn.

I knew you were awesome IAmSinistar but I didn't know you are Batman as well. :P

THIS IS how FTL should be played.
Spelunky is now on sale for $2.99 (80%), next game on sale will be Empire Earth: Gold Edition

yep its a selling strategy, but at some point i just need to sleep, normally not longer than 24 hours without sleep. the previous posts suggested that you and other users didnt go to bed during insomnia, just to not miss the next deal (except for jack keane i guess). or did i get it wrong?

Yes, it plays more like a "story roguelike". There are opportunities for decisions, trading, alliances, and other events. And combat can be paused while you issue orders, so it isn't a pure reflex game. Granted, it gets a bit frantic when you've been boarded while a superior cruiser unloads weapon fire on you, but the more you play the game the better you get at it. It's not decided by technology alone, but by how good of a player you are. That's a true game.

Since the games appeared for sale in three rounds, it was not a problem to get some sleep and grabbing almost all games :D

I don't really consider it a strategy game.... well, not more than any game with RPG/progression elements. ( at least on easy. on normal you need a bit more strategic thought to do well. but just a bit. )

also, for what it costs, you have little to lose and too much to win... let me just say it has made it's way to my all-time favorites list.

We did tend to miss sleep, and wake up during the night to keep checking things, at least in the first round where everything is an unknown. But eventually we devised a rota system where some would sleep and others would stand watch for their wishlist items. Then the next shift would take over after that. Worked very well by the end of the sale.

And if was really fun and great conversations and even interesting artistic works appeared!
