AdamR: Alright... Let's try this talking thing... I'm just gonna rant a bit.
So this morning, I'm playing a game at 4AM, and suddenly get blasted by this horrible stench that makes me want to vomit. My inconsiderate asshole neighbors on the other side of the wall are smoking weed again. Every time they do, it stinks up my side of the house.
They have been pissing me the fuck off for weeks now with noise and smells, and this just made me break. I went into full panic, so I took my meds to knock myself out. Since waking up, tiny things keep triggering smaller panic attacks. My heart, breath, and mind have been racing almost all day.
A recommendation, you know how ripple works in JoJo?, well that is actually how it works in real life but in a smaller degree, as long as you ignore the cold and your tense muscle and panic (which ca be done through imaginary reflection) you are good to go

moonshineshadow: So is there anything that helps reducing those attacks beside your meds? Something that can calm you down?
Not really. Hot showers and going for walks used to help, but since having electro-convulsive therapy, showers and walks just make things worse. I haven't been able to find anything that calms me down, except for my medication.
But over the last week, my medication isn't working as well.

How long do your anxiety attacks last? Mine are in the 1-4 hour range IF I don't fight them and just let them run their course. Fighting them makes them last much longer.
I can't take 'knock out meds' because of my heart, so I've learned the 3 things to say to myself to get through:
1. They won't kill me.
2. They are NOT my fault.
3. They will end on their own, in their own good time.

OK, this is a start. Do you want to talk about any of the little things? Or would you prefer a change in subject?

I'm trying to be of service to moonshineshadow, but for some inexplicable reason he thinks I'm not fit to. What do you say?

I am not against you helping, just questioning your methods, perhaps you could consider a change ;-)
After catching up on this thread a bit (ironically I was out walking the dog because my anxiety is flaring up), all I can say is:

AgentBirdNest is awesome!

I prefer the rubber hammer, a little bump and a headache, but NO splinters! ;)

I assure you they're fit for each case and occasion and very effective. ;-P

We also proposed a little spicing up for his avatar, did you see it?

No headache, guaranteed, just sweet baby-like sleep.

One of the little things today was a stomach ache. I had a small stomach ache today, probably because of stress, and I started thinking I have internal bleeding. (In my defense, that actually happened two months ago and I almost died.)
So I get that thought stuck in my head, then I get light headed, my heart rate goes up, and I become paralyzed with fear.
I return to normal after 10-20 minutes, but the thought keeps occurring throughout the day, even though I know it is irrational.

As for your methods - I like tough love.
pff... you guys are all just supporting hyper since you are not the one threatend with a hammer attack :D

Regarding your panic attacks Adam, I don't think it is irrational if you had already something like this happening in the past. I really hope you can get better soon and not think of that often anymore.

I'll try again to get some sleep before I have to go to work, so see you all later :-)

Oh man, I sympathise. Sorry to hear you went through something life threatening, good to see you made it and are still around here. :-)
I assume that the odds are pretty low for the problem to occur again, right?

Now, you have two things going for you - one, you are aware that it's rather unlikely to be something that serious again, that's a big thing to hold on to, and two, the attack triggered by the thought doesn't last long. Have you tried to do things that are pleasant or stress-relieving when the thought starts creeping up to you? What do you enjoy doing the most?

Ah, and thanks for approving my methods. Perhaps we could find something suitable for you, though that helmet you're wearing presents a bit of a challenge. ;-)
Looks like you are gone already, but see ya later moonshine! Hope you sleep well.

I took another dose of my meds, and am starting to feel more relaxed. I think I'll be alright for a while. Thank you guys for talking to me. +'s all around.

I might head to bed myself soon. See you later. Hopefully as AgentBirdnest :)

As long as I go easy on the NSAIDs, I should be fine.
I don't really enjoy... anything. I do have one go-to game that can ease my mind when I play it right after taking my meds. (The Wonderful End of the World.) The med/game combo is the best thing I have going for me right now. So that's what I'm going to do until I fall asleep.

If that works best for you, go play a bit and then go to bed.

Perhaps we could find something else too, but we can always discuss it tomorrow or another day. :-)

Good afternoon all!

I hope everyone's enjoying their sale games. I'm still with Escape Goat and I'm trying to decide between Overlord and Mount & Blade for next.

How are things today, Agent BirdNest?

I was reading your correspondence yesterday and was wondering if exercise would be useful to you.

I've had similar times to those you're having and I've always found doing something physical to be helpful, as it gives me more control over mind and body and makes me feel less at the mercy of the wobbles when they come.

There's a well known program called the 5BX Plan. There's a downloadable PDF here:

http://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/~rfburger/5bx-plan.pdf

You don't have to go out to do it, you can do it as often as you like, and if its any recommendation, I've got a lot out of it (like the Canadian Air Force, who it was designed for).

It might be worth trying something like this out ;-)
