donsanderson: I think what we need right now is a nice bit of 'end of sale' prose from our resident Bard/Viking/Bunny.
When done playing with your goat of course. ;-)
Right, you asked for it...

The journey's been a long one,
and frankly not the best.
That forty minutes waiting
was simply such a test.

The flash deals were not flashing,
but dragging slowly by
while most of us were praying
that time would start to fly.

But in the end the value
of staying stead and fast,
was sharing in this forum,
where time would gladly pass.

Where avatars are faces
of friends who shared the pain,
Who know that, come the next sale,
We all will share again...

Thanks for the last couple of weeks, everyone. I enjoy the games, but the forum it where the real pleasure is ;-)

CarrionCrow: Doing room 5 of Engine of Insanity right now. I can see where Stilton's coming from, insofar as the "came for puzzles, stayed despite getting a sawblade to the nether regions 50 plus times" is concerned. It's a lot more platformer than I thought it would be.
Yes, there are some rooms where your timing has to be both accurate and fortunate to make the level survivable. This is less the case in the sequel, where sussing out the best approach usually works right away.

PsyRabbit: Make sure you are wearing your helmet and strap it on so you don't throw it at your computer. ;P

Stilton: Its got pretty close to that a couple of times already ;-)

I'm not convinced that 'so damn hard it'll make you bay at the moon' should always be associated with 'classic' or even 'good' at times. I feel EG does deserve a good deal of praise, but with other ridiculously difficult games I've played I've wondered if the developers were out and out sadists. After all, the primary reason I play these things is to enjoy myself, not invite an embolism.
This reminded me of a review of Dark Souls I saw. On a local show GoodGame

Yeah, that's room 5 of Engine of Insanity to a tee. Trying to plan kinda turns into "oh crap, need to keep moving" and the plan ends up just trying to survive. Just got killed maybe 100 times? 200? It's one of those spots where you end up wondering how exactly you managed to beat it.

I've slaughtered about 50 goats on room five so far...

At the bottom of the supposed "bottomless" pit, you just know it's like the universe's largest goat meat-only slaughterhouse....

That was fun! :-)

Cheers for the company, discussions and entertainment! :-D

IAmSinistar: It's more that I was disappointed in the sale. The format was nothing special, and neither were the deals. A lot of the bundles were pared-down repeats of earlier, better bundles, and the Flash Deal didn't have enough variety. Granted, I own far too much of the GOG catalogue, so it was going to be difficult for me to get a lot out of any sale. But with the Xmas sale only a month away, this sale seemed both over-long and unnecessary. It would have been better as a more interactive sale, like the famed Insomnia or the Pots Of Gold/Mutator sales.

Niggles: ^^^^^^ im sure this sums it up nicely for a good number of people....too few Flashes in a sale that went on a bit too long.

anyone worked out how many times flash deals ended up appearing?
It's all in the spreadsheet linked from the first post, although I did not add the "secret" flash sales which apparently were active the last 40 minutes where a few games had an unannounced flash discount.

All that goat meat has made me hungry - back a bit later ;-)
I have bought about 25 games in the sale and still i want more games. GOG is awesome.
I wonder if you folks could give me some opinions on the Ultima bundle. I've played 7 (both parts) and 8, always wanted to play 6 and was curious about how the story went in 9. I'm mainly curious about how the middle trilogy holds up - mechanics, performance (when I played 7 on a 486 it ran a little too fast for my liking and I didn't know then about stuff like MoSlo and such), etc. Any input would be appreciated.

Well, I have heard a LOT about Ultima 9. Haven't gotten to it myself, but it seems like one worth giving a try, just to see what all the fuss is about.

Who knows. Nine might be your new Fahrenheit. ;-p
