At the risk of sounding hearttess towards Sid, I partially blame the Pens for the treatment he's gotten (and I say this as a Flyers fan who despises Crosby for obvious reasons). The league has evolved from the 70s and 80s, but you can't put a franchise player of Crosby's calibre on the ice without having a top enforcer on the roster to ride shotgun. The Flyers basically did the same to Lindros and cut his career short by years. And I don't mean just get any old goon. You get the baddest buzzsaw you can find and let it be known that if you go after Sid the buzzsaw is not only going to get the guy going after Sid, but your team's most talented player, as well.

Did you ever see the Simpsons when they go to Hell, get put on trial and the jury is made up of John Wilkes Booth, Ivan the Terrible, and the starting lineup of the 1976 Flyers? That still makes me laugh my ass off.

That'd be Cookie. But he's too volatile for his own, and the team's good. They had to give him an ultimatum : Cool it, or walk.

He still backslides, occasionally, but he;s calmed down a LOT since last year.
