Sorry GOG, but the daily surprise gimmick is terrible. Two times it's been games I already owned and the other still left the game at $20 despite discount, hardly impulse-buy material.

I was lucky my first day was a game that was on my wishlist for a while, pity about the other times.

Yes, the deals I got were all on games I already owned as well. McDon wrote that he/ she received a game on his/ her wish list. Good to gift though, but until now, the games that popped up were hardly gifting material.
The Fallout deal from the beginning was fantastic though.

FlamingFirewire: Got super lucky and owned every game in today's promo except the two I wanted - Carmageddon 2 and Hotline Miami. Hopefully I'll see Deadly Premonition in one of my everyday gifts:)

Novotnus: Mister Francis York Morgan!
How can you not own it yet?
Looks like Emily borrowed some of my money for sinners sandwich - now I don't have enough money left for it! I should say, it really is fantastic!
Looks like the Roguelike bundle will be the sale for tomorrow - how will it work with Sword of the Stars: The Pit?

Is the gold edition of SOTS: The Pit basically the base game + mindgames DLC + gold upgrade DLC?

The original release thread says that you need the Mindgames DLC to be able to use the gold upgrade.

So if the gold edition is discounted in the pack, will people who own the base game be able to buy the upgrades at the same discount?

xy2345: But I agree, that the whole forced google+ integration is bs. I didn't have a google+ account before that. Now I have one, but of course it does not contain real information about me and I'm not using it. It only exists to allow me to comment on youtube.
avatar
rtcvb32: And then they wonder why there was suddenly so many trolls. Curiously the 'new comment system' has so many negative votes it's a wonder how they thought this was a good idea. Google+ so far is a failed system, not necessarily bad, but being forced to use it gives a bad taste and makes everyone hate it. A good number of people aren't really aware of the integration since they had to get a Google+ for newer users (the last 2 years?).

I wonder how many content publishers are going to just walk away, since commenting by itself is such a pain in the butt now to try and get back with everyone. Course as I mentioned before, TotalBiscuit bypasses the comment system by referring you to Reddit instead. Seems like a workable system.
Just because the personal info is fake doesn't meant that I don't behave like a civilized human being.

I know what TB does, but I'm not going to go to Reddit to post a comment on a youtube video. That's too many hoops to jump through.

CarrionCrow: Well, the Pit gives you a variety of characters to choose from, each specializing in a particular aspect (survival, crafting, computers, weapons, psychic powers), and you can decide between difficulty levels so you don't have to set out for a full-on masochism experience unless you want to.
avatar
jackster79: SOTS:The Pit, I can give some insight on. As CarrionCrow stated, there are multiple characters to choose from, each specializing in a certain set of skills (but all skills are available to all classes it seems). Also, not sure how much this is still the case, but when it first came out, even the easiest difficulty was considered harder than one would think due to the random generator deliberately working against any item drop that would be in your favor. It is still fun, but bear in mind the purpose of the game is the journey and not the end, and thus expect to die a ton regardless of which character that is chosen.

In case it matters, I play it with the 360 controller, and find the interface to be very very good. Only in wanting to accomplish particular actions do I still use the mouse/keyboard, but I reckon that is because I still have not figured out how to do it with the controller.

The game is turn-based, so you will not have to worry about losing due to you as the person playing the game not reacting fast enough, which I consider a huge plus (not as fast in my relative-old-gamer-age as I was during the Nintendo golden era :-) ).

Also, the game is one that I would consider one you can pick up and play anytime with respect to *most* aspects of the game, in case your schedule is a busy one and that matters too (I say *most* because there are certain things like "goo" you can acquire that are different colors, and the effect of the colors change with each starting-over, and once you discover the effect for your current attempt it is not recorded - you have to keep track of that yourself. I think there are only one or two things - goo and maybe doors and/or traps but that is it).
Thank you both for your input. :) The Pit is actually the game I know the less about and was the less sure of, so this helps a lot. I'll see what the Recommended Deal and my Gift are tomorrow, and decide then. I've set aside a rather fat budget for this sale, but it's not bottomless. xD

JoseWisemang: Hmmmm.... If I own Sword of the Stars: the Pit and bought all the DLC seperately does that count as owning SotS: The Pit Gold Edition in the upcoming bundle or would I have to buy the game again to achieve the discount?
This is just an educated guess, and I kind of wonder the same thing... here's my thoughts if I understand correctly Sword of the Stars: The Pit Gold product is just bundle of the three separate releases so based on that I assume to key in the discount you'd need both DLCs (Mindgames and Gold Upgrade) or that adding both DLCs plus remaining package will trigger discount if you own base game.

I was thinking about it too and... well, let's do some math, shall we?

SOTS: The Pit gold edition costs 12.99$ so 70% off it will cost 3.9$
Mindgames DLC and Gold Edition upgrade cost 4.99$ and 2.99$, respectively. But they are 50% during the entire sale so they cost 2.49$ and 1.49$ so 3.98$. That's only 8 cents more than the whole Gold Edition will cost tomorrow. So I won't be surprised if they are not included in a bundle tomorrow because you can upgrade your game during the whole sale for (almost) the same price.
Could somebody please explain to me why the Roguelikelike Bundlelike deal has three times the amount of votes that the other pack got? If I already own FTL, would you say that it's worth getting?

I voted for it because I wanted Spelunky mostly. The Pit Gold is another I intended to pick up later on, but at 70% I'll go ahead and get it.

Rogue Legacy I already have from the insomnia sale and like a lot. For someone who likes 2d Metroid or Castlevania games it is something I'd highly recommend. Though at times it can be rather difficult. I'd also recommend using a gamepad of some kind for Rogue Legacy and Spelunky.

70% off $7.98 is $2.39. If it's any more than that then it will be a slap in the face to all the early buyers. But I guess that's par the course for all this DLC bullshit.

Buenro-games: I got Influx on the random deal, kind of reminds me of Marble Madness but with scenery. Wonder if it's worth it?
avatar
IAmSinistar: It's a decent little puzzle game, where you have to rotate the interior environments to get the orb where you need it to be. I'd say it's worth the discount price. Helps if you have a beefy PC, as it's a bit stuttery on mine at times in the exterior jungle environment, but not so bad that I can't play the game.
It's a game that feels like it should be on the SNES. I almost sorta wish new ROMS were being made even if they weren't distributed in cartridge form.

edit: I thought you had mentioned Shuggy... which was my random 'deal of the day'.
