Let's just mention the fact, that we're opening with a triple nuclear blast, giving away Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics for FREE the next 48 hours. How varied is it? On top of regular discounts you'll have daily deals including games presented by YouTube personalities, hot thematic bundles chosen each day by our dear users, offered with up to 80% discounts, and--finally--daily personal deals where you pick one of the special offers available to you, and you only. How exciting is it? Well, you probably get the idea by now. So, there you have it: time to save BIG on the best games in history, available DRM-free for Windows and Mac.

This holiday season, your GOG.com Winter Sale experience include the company of Jesse Cox, Force Strategy Gaming, Dodger from Press Heart to Continue, and the YogsCast team. Each day we mash-up a classic game (or games) with it's modern successors and offer them with high discounts, while our tube-casting friends explain why they consider such a blend interesting and worth playing.

Section updated: Don't forget about your gamer friends that may not know GOG.com yet! Sadly, for the sake of unburdening what servers we have, we had to turn off the option for gifting free games. But you can always just let them know they can sign up with GOG.com and claim a free gift of Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics. On top of that, when they register to our service, they'll receive all the 12 free games we add to all the newly-created accounts. That way your friends will start their adventure with GOG.com with a collection of 15 great games total already on their virtual shelves! Be kind, share the good news! :-)

We'd also like to remind you, that all purchases on GOG.com are now covered with our new 30-day Worldwide Money Back Guarantee, so your holiday gaming shopping spree is safer than it ever was before.

Our 2013 DRM-Free Winter Sale will last until Sunday, December 29, at 1:59PM GMT. Happy holidays from GOG.com team, everyone! And again, sorry for the server issues in the initial hours of our sale.

TheEnigmaticT: Our highest traffic day ever was during the Insomnia sale--we ordered double the servers of that sale, and it still wasn't nearly enough. We're rolling out another order of the same size in the next hour or so, and then we should be good to go.
Well, in this case I apologize for my rather harsh words in the other thread.
It's just that this happens during every major promotion, so from the outside it looks like you haven't learned from the Insomnia sale.

Site works now perfectly again for me.

ShadowWulfe: So to do the 80% on the current promo I just uncheck everything that I already have and add it to checkout?
Be careful, it's "up to 80%" - Dragon Commander for example is only 50% off.

IAmSinistar: (Chanted to the tune of "I must improve my bust").

I must, I must, I must improve my backlog!
The quicker the elves, the fuller the shelves,
The GOGs depend on us!

:)

avatar
TheEnigmaticT: There is ordinarily a counter on the sale to tell you exactly this, but they've all been turned off in an attempt to give the server gnomes fewer things to do and increase the likelihood of them actually serving the website instead.
avatar
IAmSinistar: So the answer is "there is an answer, but it's hidden at the moment". Crafty. :)
All the games that are on sale but not part of any daily deals or mystery boxes will be on sale at the same discount right through the promo. Of course a game which is 50% off at the moment may be in a daily deal in the future (e.g. Theme Hospital is 50% right now but might show up as part of the Bullfrog Bundle) This excludes a couple launch discounts which are outside of the promo.

Cool. But when is the final day of the overall sale?
avatar
ne_zavarj: I can't even check the 3 special offers.
You mean the middle one with you can choose one off. I obviosly chose the wrong one as I got 85% off from monkey island from the middle one (don't care about adventures). :-p

Thanks! And sorry for the ambiguity of my response, the "answer which is hidden" that I was referring to is when the sale ends. But general consensus seems to be two weeks, so I'm operating on that premise.

By the way, I don't seem to be able to add items to my Wishlist at the moment. Is this a known issue at the time as well? Perhaps that got switched off too in order to minimise server load.
Wow, servers are getting hammered.
i saw a whirling circle for the longest time when i tried to check how to save up a gift code for later.

oh well, i guess il just keep trying.
I can't even stay logged in to check what is in the sale, After I log in and click any of the sale offers, I get logged out again. This is frustrating (ignoring the usual 404 pages and bad gateway errors)

Thank you for this info. I am eyeing Deadly Premonition and was wondering if the 50% off was going to last until the end. Now I know that it may show up in a daily or special so I can hold a bit.

IAmSinistar: So then, stupid question - are the games that are on sale, but not specifically part of a daily deal, going to be on sale for the whole of the promotion?

Taking a game at random, Shadowgrounds is 50% off but not part of any daily deal. Will it remain at least 50% until the whole Xmas 2013 thing ends, or do I need to fight the servers today in order to get it?

And when does this end, anyway?

I don't believe the Shadowrun sale lasts until the end of the Winter sale, though; rather, it lasts a week from the day it launched (Monday).
Take all the time you need. This site is already insane fun and these sales just add to the fun!

I've noticed it tends to kick me out if I select from my wishlist, but is a-okay if I select from the search function. Something about the secure.gog.com/.... vs gog.com/....

As I posted above, server gnomes seem to have disabled gifting free games to avoid servers from blowing up :-p If you have friends that do not have Fallout trilogy, they'll need to come to get them themselves. For now at least.

PS - Hoping for a Broken Sword bundle, now that the latest title is out.

Yah, that's the authentication server. I saw it crash several times when the Fallout deal was up. It has different error messages than the other servers. I still can't add to my wishlist, but everything else seems to work. Checkout may be affected though, since it relies on it as well.

Double and still not enough? Not really surprised, after all, it's Fallout we're talking about.

Fingers crossed that things will smooth out pretty soon.
