2013 DRM-Free Winter Sale Video Recommendations playlist

Section updated: Don't forget about your gamer friends that may not know GOG.com yet! Sadly, for the sake of unburdening what servers we have, we had to turn off the option for gifting free games. But you can always just let them know they can sign up with GOG.com and claim a free gift of Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics. On top of that, when they register to our service, they'll receive all the 12 free games we add to all the newly-created accounts. That way your friends will start their adventure with GOG.com with a collection of 15 great games total already on their virtual shelves! Be kind, share the good news! :-)

We'd also like to remind you, that all purchases on GOG.com are now covered with our new 30-day Worldwide Money Back Guarantee, so your holiday gaming shopping spree is safer than it ever was before.

I still wonder how we are supposed to vote for tomorrow's deal though. It will probably be Jack Keane just to troll us. x)

Indru: Thanks, man! You don't, by any chance, have the link to the voting page for tomorrow's deal, don't you? :D (just throwing that there, you know) :P

P.S.: This is another reason to believe that the main timer was the accident, and not the promos.
Not sure about the voting - since the front page hasn't updated, I'm guessing the new votes are buried as well. Plus those aren't URLs, so maybe someone who is good at coding or web development can inspect the front page elements and find a way to reveal the new votes?
avatar
final_option: Yep, and they also show a remaining time for the next choice of around 24 hours, so the problem is only with the two bundles ending ahead of their time, it seems.
avatar
sbenrap: My daily deal didn't change, probably because I actually bought the one I selected yesterday :(
Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
Same here!

I looked at the page source but unfortunately in order to generate another page that contains the new choices I have to know the bundles - I can then replace the old ones with the new ones and create a new page by modifying the existing one. However, since we don't know what those bundles are, I'm afraid it's not quite possible. :(

jackster79: Are you guys saying that I should NOT have voted for the Cinematic Adventures? :-p

Always wanted to eventually get the Runaway games, and well, might as well collect a piece of history with the other set.

At least there *is* a timer for JK this time around.

CarrionCrow: Also voted for the Jack Keane/Runaway bundle. Considering how pleasant and good natured the developers of Jack Keane were, even as a ton of people made jokes at its expense, caused me to see them favorably. Also, have been curious about it since the Insomnia sale. What if it's awesome and it was just the price point that was off rather than the game itself?
We all poked fun at the game but I think most people didn't truly have any negative thoughts about the game if they've never actually played it. I ended up buying Jack Keane 1 from Shinyloot a couple of weeks later as it was on sale DRM-free for $1 which was too good to pass up, in order to be able to check it out as it looks like a decent point-n-click. When I get around to giving it a spin, if it's any good I'll probably pick up the second one when it goes on sale for $2.50 or less somewhere. (I've got an overabundance of point n click games ATM).

avatar
Gonchi: I'd probably buy Jack Keane 2 for 75% off. That'd be, what, $7.50? Going by reviews, I'd say I've definitely paid more for worse. The all or nothing bundle discount makes it a hard sell though, already own Jack Keane elsewhere, sorry GOG you took too long, also have the Runaway games on disc and I'm not interested in digital copies without the original Spanish audio.
Beware though, many of the reviews on GOG are fake reviews that many people added as a joke to try to promote the game in a good light so it might sell faster when it was slowing down the Insomnia sale a month or so ago for 7 hours. I haven't looked to see if those reviews were ever taken down by those who added them or not, but the reviews system can't really be trusted overall due to ease of gaming it in combination with a very low number of participants overall. I look at metacritic's user score mainly and other such sites to gauge sentiment in addition to trailers and unbiased gameplay videos, word of mouth, etc. and my own gut instinct about whether I think I might like a given game even if 3/4 of the world hates it. I ignore sources of info that are known to be, or easily determined to be filled with bogus reviews though as they're not really useful. :)

SirPrimalform: I think the 48 hour timer is deliberate. The accident lies in the fact that they didn't increase the time on the promos themselves. So the main page won't update for another 23 hours or so but the current promos are unbuyable because they weren't updated with the main timer.
avatar
Indru: I think the other way around.

avatar
mondo84: Here's the URL for today's Globetrotters Gear deal - it's live!

http://www.gog.com/promo/globetrotters_gear_80_off_winter_promo_2013

Figured it out looking at the URLs for previous deals. And here's the recommended deal - A Study in Red.

http://www.gog.com/promo/a_study_in_red_winter_promo_2013

So I guess it was just a mistake to not have the front page change to show new deals after 24 hours.

No, that makes no sense. Given that all the timers have been 24 hours so far, it would take deliberate intervention to change that to 48 hours. Much more likely that they intended it to be 48 hours because they knew people would be busy with christmas but forgot the deal timers. The fact that the new deals are running is just because they automatically went up when the old deals expired.

Given the circumstances, it makes more sense that the main timer is set by mistake to 48 than that the promos are BOTH set by mistake at 24. Because the new promos are in, and, also, people that haven't bought the daily surprise can now vote on a new one. Therefore, main timer is a mistake. Because it's the only one. In your version, they did 3 mistakes, not one, which doesn't make sense at all.

The GoG staff must have been on the sherry. They're probably so pissed they don't know what day it is. ;p
if you click on either of the two current promo's buy it then it doesnt work,
if you clock on buy it from the box however it still does.
Is the daily deal still good? I was trying to buy the daily deal (yesterday's deal, really) today, but I get a security warning sign. Since this deal was supposed to have expired a few hours ago, I'm getting cold feet.

EDIT: I just dealt with this "problem". I used the good old pick-a-new-daily-offers trick to "re-pick" yesterday's deal that I wanted. I just tried to purchase it now and got no security warnings, unlike last time.

EDIT 2: Nevermind, I just tried it again I'm still getting those security warnings. Well, no purchase for me today then.

Which promos are you talking about? If you mean the "rule by magic" one, then please elaborate further on how you got it to work. I planned on buying it, but now can't because of the glitch.

I meant those two (rule by magic and night of the rabbit dont work) the only thing that still works is one of those 3 gift boxes below.

Ah, I see...a pity, but thank you anyway :)
Merry Christmas everyone!

At this point, I'm kinda hoping the daily promos will end soon so that I can get Valdis Story: Abyssal City and some others at 50% off without hitting myself on the forehead if they go at 75% off or better less than a week after purchase during one of the daily sales.
