2013 DRM-Free Winter Sale Video Recommendations playlist

Section updated: Don't forget about your gamer friends that may not know GOG.com yet! Sadly, for the sake of unburdening what servers we have, we had to turn off the option for gifting free games. But you can always just let them know they can sign up with GOG.com and claim a free gift of Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics. On top of that, when they register to our service, they'll receive all the 12 free games we add to all the newly-created accounts. That way your friends will start their adventure with GOG.com with a collection of 15 great games total already on their virtual shelves! Be kind, share the good news! :-)

We'd also like to remind you, that all purchases on GOG.com are now covered with our new 30-day Worldwide Money Back Guarantee, so your holiday gaming shopping spree is safer than it ever was before.

Our 2013 DRM-Free Winter Sale will last until Sunday, December 29, at 1:59PM GMT. Happy holidays from GOG.com team, everyone! And again, sorry for the server issues in the initial hours of our sale.

Come on PEOPLE, vote for Fantastic Open Worlds for tomorrow. Everyone and their grandmother owns Torchlight already. Do the right thing and vote for Open Worlds.

...that should do it...
I forgot which thread we're posting these in now, but if anyone needs a deal on just part of the current Sci-Fi Combat Sims, let me know as I have them all.

Dawnreader: C'mon gognauts! We need more open world lovers for the next community deal :)
Agreed! I urge all lovers to rush to the open world and share their love with the community!

Seriously, vote for "Fantastic Open Worlds" there's a lot of truly fantastic games in there. =)

CarrionCrow: Ah, so in other words, you have the kind of collection that I'm trying to accumulate. Here's the big question - have you bought things just because they're part of the overall collection, regardless of how little interest you have in them? I say that rather than my first thought of "regardless of how awful" since awful games can be interesting as well.
This is only my 2nd sale. The last wintersale I was unprepared (and so was my purse).
But in the summer sale i bought left and right....yes, even games which i know they were bad.
Lucky for the insomnia i was without constant con.
Now for this sale i only buy games that I'll play. My real wishlist is very short...only one game. Every other game i bought
is from my 2nd list of *looks interesting/own it elsewhere/only if its dirty cheap/but can live without it*.

For experiments there are enough bundles around. I only started digital download games last year (GOG)...and if i count them....boooh, Humble/Indieroyal/IndieGala/Bundle-in-a-Box/Groupees/GG/GOG/Shinyloot/Desura.....i would guess that makes around 800 games......omg I am nuts.

I don't know any of them, but the review ratings are mediocre.
Maybe Avernum (Exile remake) seems the most interesting, except for graphic.

Torchlight? Torchlight? To HELL with Torchlight!

King of Dragon Pass is the most unique and engrossing game you'll ever experience, and Fantasy Through History deserves your vote just so more people can play it! :)

EDIT: No disrespect was meant to fans of Torchlight, of course. :) I myself enjoy it a lot, and my rather emphatic dismissal of it was meant for comic effect only. It's just that people probably are voting for that bundle just because of Torchlight, and it's very sad because the other games deserve exposure too, and none more than King of Dragon Pass, in my opinion.

Folks, could anyone tell me if Medal Of Honor Allied Assault was 75% off this sale?
Thanks in advance for any help.

skeletonbow: Ok, so I had Surgeon Simulator on my wishlist as a low priority for the future and while it was on sale I didn't think I'd play it for a while so I figured I'd wait for a future sale instead...

Then I decided to watch the promo video on the GOG homepage for it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW5IHNH5NU0#t=806

Totally cracked me up, looks pretty funny... couldn't resist it after that. Dunno who that guy is but he did a pretty funny promo there GOG, which ultimately convinced me to buy the game. ;oP Anyhow, if anyone panned the game, watch the video if you haven't, the sense of humour in it is what did it for me. :)

Ghorpm: For me it was other way around. I've never considered buying this game and the video confirmed my expectations - the game is not for me.

I have, however, a lot of fun watching him playing Theme Hospital. There are not so many rooms that benefit a lot from making them large. The perfect example is a staff room and yet he made it as small as possible :D And not only he hired just one doctor to operate three different rooms but he also managed to hire the lamest doctor ever :D I swear, similar mistakes happen to me all the time when I start playing any managerial game that I don't know yet. My first game is usually a test to see what's what...
I gave Surgeon Simulator a spin last night and it's pretty funny. Worth the $2.50 for me, although the game definitely isn't for everyone. I haven't successfully completed surgery yet but I started getting used to the (probably intentionally) awkward controls.

Theme hospital is awesome, had it since the 90s and bought the GOG one a while back.

Wow, I thought I was losing it! LOL I'm at 222 GOG, 160 redeemed on Steam and about 50 or so unredeemed, 13 Bundlestars, 4 humble, 1 groupees, 5 Indie gala, a dozen from shinyloot, misc other DRM-free or minor-DRM direct downloads, several dozen Desura... I have no idea what the count is now. :)

So... what is your 1 wishlist game?

So my gift boxes worked correctly today and I could see what each deal was just not the discount and to my horror I saw two games I wanted, Assassins Creed:DC and Giants: Citizen Kabuto. How am I supposed to choose between those? I want both lol. Although I have thought about getting Giants of PS2, I don't know plus I want to get Descent 3 in that bundle today...hmmm...

Should I just avoid AC and Giants and just get them on their respective console versions? Hmmmm....

Oh, Giants is fantastic on PC.

I'd never heard of this game but it does look fascinating. I can pass on the rest in that bundle, but this one is going high on my wish list for the future. This sale is doing a great job of exposing me to games I would never have looked at otherwise.

Imho Everybody has own preferences and I think Eschalon Series - true old-school rpgs

You can always check Youtube, watch some let's plays and and then choose by your heart

It's true, to each his/her own. :)

But still, I would really recommend King of Dragon Pass to anyone who hasn't tried it or even heard about it, especially if one cares about storytelling and its integration within the gameplay. While there are many Good Old RPGs out there (GORPGs? :D), King of Dragon Pass is unique. There are no games like it (see the several GOG threads devoted to trying to find an experience like it, and failing to do so).

It hasn't been 75% off so far. Might be in an upcoming community bundle, but it's not one of the rotating personalized daily deals.
