carnival73: About this 'end of the world' thing.

over the past few years have things seemed to be a lot frickin' stranger than they used too
or am I just nuts like they've always been telling me?

I mean, from my warped perception of life, the show has been over for quite some time now and I've just been holding tight in the auditorium waiting for them to turn on the lights.
You know that the show keeps on rolling, once you finally upgrade your friggin XP...
End of the world? Nonsense.
I have no resolutions.

Here's how I've understood the "Mayan apocalypse":
A long time ago, a bunch of really skilled house builders wrote a story about gods creating worlds one of which lasted for 13 calendars/calendar-parts, that is 5125 years, before it exploded into goo. Then some other guys came, started reading those stories and saw a calendar with a limited number of days on it not unlike my 2011 calendars. Some of them figured that the calendar running out of days must mean that Earth is going to be 5125 years old in 2012, and naturally that means that it's going to explode into goo as well, because one world (of 4?) did that in a story and as a logical consequence all worlds do. This view was much more sensational than the rest of the guys' calmer versions, so it got popular.

I'm curious if that's even somewhat correct :p
Gaming resolutions:

1) Spend less money on games. Try to buy only games that you are absolutely sure you want to play, not just because it's on sale and looks half-decent.

2) Don't give a shit about completing games in your backlog, just play the ones you enjoy until you don't enjoy them anymore.

Real life resolutions:

1) Let your loved ones know how much you care about them more often. In general: Spend more time with them.

2) Don't spend so fucking long pointlessly browsing the internet. Spend more time actively pursuing your goals and ambitions.

Good luck, maybe you can do it...

GameRager: 2. No significant other either? That's a pity.
What does it have in common with some celebration someone pulled out of his ass?
Valentine's day was not celebrated here until a few years after the Velvet revolution, we did fine without it. If you love someone, you can show it anyday, not just on this special date because someone said so.

I agree one can celebrate their love on any day, but why hate Valentine's Day because it exists?

Roman5: I never do any "new year resolutions" because I think it's stupid as hell

If I decide to change something in my life for the better I'm not waiting until the end of the year and thinking where my life is headed like some people do

For a similar reason I do not "celebrate" and hate valentines day
You need a hug!

Because it is more of a sellers' celebration. You know, it is the day when they sell plenty of flowers, chocolates or other crap to hordes of "hurr, Imma buyz moar shit for him/her because it is THE day" customers.

They sell that stuff regardless of Valentine's Day.

They do, but no in such quantities because there is one pointless celebration. Basically, for them it is "Sell more crap because the calendar says today is the special day Day".

It's still no reason to hate the day or those who celebrate it. Hate companies then and consumerism.
Install DOS again :-P
No resolution, but 2012 will certainly be a lot different from 2011. In a good way, one hopes.
