You wouldn't believe how many times people confuse this. Usually, when someone goes: "Switzerland? Oh I know, their famous for those sexy blonde bombshells!" I'll answer: "No, that's Sweden, we have the brunettes."

It'll be an interesting match, Slovenia vs England. We both HAVE to win to get ahead, at least if USA makes fun of Algeria (not so sure). It's all in the points now, and maybe even in the goal difference. Funny thing: If we at least draw with England, and Algeria wins over USA, then we see Slovenia and Algeria advance. What a group, indeed.

That's true, and still, that's mainly because you've had luck with the other results also being draws.
I think England will beat Slovenia. Not only because they have to, but because Slovenia is another european team who plays a type of football the english side is more familiar with from their daily work in the premier league, as well as the european qualifiers. The US had good payoff on their tactic against england, agressive midfield pressure with a defensive counterattacking mindset. Still, if it hadn't been for the antics of Green I think England would have won that game 2 or 3-0. The team fell apart after the goalkeeping hooey.
Algeria basically watched the England-USA game and copied USA's tactics. When England wasn't able to find an opener, frustration spread, which wasn't helped by the booing of their oh-so-loyal fans on the stands. In addition Rooney just isn't truly match fit yet, Lampard and Gerrard are running into eachother, Heskey has the striker confidence of an average grandmother from the west end, and the defense is now lacking both King and Carragher. Although I think Dawson will relish the opportunity of playing in such a game and be outstanding against Slovenia.
I want England to reach far in the tournament, so I hope they beat Slovenia. I'll be disappointed if England are knocked out in the group phase. If they are, I suggest Capello book the home flight via Trinidad & Tobago, or perhaps get a glider and land in the dead of night in a field somewhere north of Carlisle. The reception at Heathrow will be less than stellar.
By the way. What is the english newspapers writing today? I'd love to go get some, but I have to travel all the way to the airport to get today's papers, which is a bit too far.

That, and Austria-Australia and Slovenia-Slovakia.
But as ENG-SVN match comes close, I haven't seen one mistake made in this department. Just goes to show you...

There's a bit of blame attached to the players (mostly from the broadsheets, The Guardian etc.) whilst all the tabloids are suggesting that the manager is crap. Websites are your friend in this case: Guardian link
Myself, I think it's a bit of both.
Capello has fallen into the same trap that previous england managers have, which is to play Heskey despite his poor form, play Gerrard out of position rather than play a proper winger/defensive midfielder and he hasn't chosen a proper No.1 goalkeeper.
He also picked other players who weren't fit (King, Barry) and left out Darren Bent (20+ premier league goals last season).
Whilst those were his errors, the poor form of some players for their country is another matter entirely. Frank Lampard has had 31 shots in world cup games, and not scored. Wayne Rooney hasn't scored for England in 10 hours of games. That's the sort of worrying thing which is hampering our progress.
And yet... the last three times we won only one of our group games ('86, '90, '02) we got to the quarter finals.
Half of me wants to join in the attack on the England players for being crap, but the other half just says "calm down"...

After that match, my opinion about our football "team" hasn't changed a bit from page 1 : I don't give a crap. In my opinion and paradoxically, what happened today is a good thing and I'm hoping for 2 things now :
- South Africa will humiliate our team, just because.
- If Laurent Blanc gets to coach our national team, I hope he will dispatch that mercenary gang that we dare to call a football team, and replace them with players who deserve and respect the jersey. That he will teach the new team some humility as well.
Comparing these greedy fuckers with our rugby team is like comparing day and night.
I would agree with you, minus one thing: given the fact that laurent Blanc might be negociating a contract that would allow him to give up on the French team if a club offers him more cash, I don't think we're far away from another mercenary...

Well if it gets more Americans interested in football, then sure, they win. But I don't think they thought of it that way.
