mharris: You just reminded me... I own all of the Myst games now I think, between DVDs and GOG. I've only actually played and solved the original and Riven though, both fantastic games and total classics at that. I started Myth 3: Exile at one point but only got an hour or so into it and the computer went sour before I could get playing it again. I should totally fire the remaining Myst series up one of these days and finish them. I also discovered a new game series today which is claimed to be in the style of Myst called "RHEM" on Greenmangaming/Steam. Contemplating getting them too as they're on sale and dealzon.com has a coupon for additional discount. :)
Momo1991: Do your reading about Rhem - I too was attracted to these games but after reading some reviews (and that they may or may not run on my computer), I decided to give them a pass...
Yeah, I just read some reviews that put me off too such as having to manually install Apple quicktime yourself. I had some games before that required such obscure things and could never get them to work. Maybe if GOG picks the game up and sorts all that out in a package that installs all of its dependencies in a jail of its own I'll reconsider, but I don't like software that makes me have to go install extra stuff myself and pray the versions I get are compatible and don't break anything else on my system.
Thanks for the heads up!
Sorapak: I think long time ago (somewhat after during the golden age of adventure games) there was a thought about online game,I think it was supposed to be based on Myst. Never happened I guess or canceled..
BlueKronos: The Myst Online:URU game was an online multiplayer, it was shut down some time ago though; however, according to their website they are starting to bring at least parts of it back online for free.
http://mystonline.com/en/about/news/ sounds interesting, especially since they are taking user developed content, which so long as it's good quality would extend it's life.
Edit: And from what I found elsewhere, the game was originally the standalone Uru: Ages Beyond Myst and was expanded to the online subscription based game that was later cancelled and is now being revived as a free to play.
Nice.... I have URU but have never installed it. One of these days though. :)
